hey yall! FOUND THE LEAK!
hey yall! FOUND THE LEAK!
Many of you have read my previous posts on my problems with leaks. Been so so tired to the point of literally feeling sick. I'm on my sixth mask and wondering, why does every mask show bad leaks? Well I felt so terrible today I broke down crying to my husband. Went to bed, masked up, and I was lying there with my eyes closed. I noticed that the air coming from the vent was pointing up, so why was my pillow feeling so cold? Then I felt it....air shooting downward from the hose! Both ends of the hose have a hole and are about to detach from the plastic piece that holds it together. I have it taped for now. This has Probably been my problem for months! Well at least I have a mask wardrobe. ...
Re: hey yall! FOUND THE LEAK!

I'm glad you found the leak! This is a good reminder for everyone to occasionally check the hose and all connections for leaks! Not all leaks come from the mask itself.

It's always one of those great little victories when you find a leak. I feel like I've conquered some massive enemy LOL.
Good to hear you found it!

Re: hey yall! FOUND THE LEAK!
Glad you found it, tmorris!
Anyone who is using "climateline" or "slimline" hoses should check regularly where the clear plastic joins the rubber cuff. Those hoses are so flimsy (imho) they are very likely to get a tear there.
That's just another of the many, many reasons I prefer using a good old regular ("standard") hose -- or the Aussie heated hose I've used for years -- with a standalone Fisher & Paykel HC 150 heated humidifier. I'm not fond of the "integrated" humidifiers or the narrow diameter hoses.

Re: hey yall! FOUND THE LEAK!
Wish I'd seen those posts. I've had problems with leaking hoses. My last one was more tape than hose, I think. Hoses can get very brittle and will develop holes pretty easily. Glad you found the problem and may you have a good nights sleep.tmorris wrote:Many of you have read my previous posts on my problems with leaks. Re: hey yall! FOUND THE LEAK!
To tmorris,
Congratulations on finding the leak!
I know that whenever I wash my hose (about once a week), I use the water from the faucet to check for leaks. Back when I was using the Resmed S9, I found two leaks in my original slimline hose that way.
Since being switched to the PR BiPAP, I've not had any hose leaks---even though I've been using a (new) Resmed Slimline hose now for several months with the BiPAP. I think the placement of the air outlet on the S9 may cause additional stress on the hose right at that coupling.

Re: hey yall! FOUND THE LEAK!
jmiii,
You've made the same post that seems rather like an ad for CPAPMaskGel.com on at least four different threads that I've seen. On the first thread I read, the post was at least tangentially on topic since the OP was asking questions about keeping a mask on in the middle of the night.
But your post (included below) has absolutely nothing to do with this thread, which is about holes in hoses causing leak problems that can easily be overlooked for weeks by a CPAPer---even a CPAPer who's looking for leaks. The advertised product would have done nothing to address the OP's problem, which, by the way she solved and was letting those of us following her know just what the problem really turned out to be.
I'm forced to conclude that you eally are more interested in advertising a product than you are in actually reading and helping individual CPAPers with their particular problems. Now note, I have no opinion about the CPAPMaskGel product that you are promoting---it may or may not be a fantastic product for all I know. But if all you are doing is advertising something you are trying to sell, then randomly posting the same exact words to multiple threads---particular threads that are not related to problems the product is designed to fix---is crossing over into spamming the forum.
And so don't be surprised if posts like this one start to be removed by folks deciding they are indeed spam.

jmiii wrote:I am a sleep tech and I have OSA as well. A rep came by my sleep lab about three weeks ago with CPAP Mask Gel. Its a gel that helps keep the CPAP pressure in the mask. SO I gave it a shot. That night I slept like a champ. I never woke up to my CPAP alarm. Thats what my wife calls it. But I never woke up to adjust the mask or to the high pitch whistling noise my mask makes in the middle of the night when I roll over.
I'm using CPAP Mask Gel with my patients during their CPAP titration and it seems to work with most mask types. Except the pillow masks. I think the gel may create an obstruction in the nasal passages, so Iv been avoiding that application. But all and all I give the stuff a 10. It works for me at home and for my patients in the lab. So I'm suggesting it to yall. If your mask is leaking and you have tried several different masks, then try the gel. You can buy it on CPAP Mask Gel. com.

VETWRAP the ends--not a repair, just prevention.
Both of us have used our climateline hoses for over a year--so far.
Who knew an equestrian product would be so useful?
