DME gave me the wrong machine

Post by Sunshine Lady » Thu Oct 13, 2011 5:18 pm

I just got my new machine yesterday afternoon. I didn't notice until this afternoon that they gave me a S9 Escape Auto instead of the S9 AutoSet that I asked for. Do I have any options? Waiting for a call back from the DME right now.

I would go tomorrow and return it for an AutoSet and not let them tell you they can't. more then likely they did this on purpose.

Don't ask the DME for options for yourself.

Tell the DME that you are returning the machine, that neither you nor your insurance company will pay one penny for the wrong machine, and that they have the option of providing the right machine or losing you as a customer and source of references.

There is a chance that they just made a mistake. Many DME employees don't understand the difference between the models.

Put the machine on their counter and don't touch it again.

And don't use it tonight. Pack it up.

I agree, I wouldn't use it. One more night won't matter.
But while you have it, where does it say "ESCAPE" on it? Does it say AUTOSET on the control panel just like the S9?
I'm asking because this came up in a recent post and the only way to tell the difference seems to be the REF number.

Thank all of you for your help!

I feel this was done on purpose because it was the manager who who gave it to me and he took the box with him. (So I couldn't see the name on the box?) I had given him a written list of what I wanted so he knew which machine I wanted.

I have already packed it up and will return it in the morning and pick up my sleep study and prescription. Also talked with the insurance company and they have not received any paperwork yet so will call them after I return it and instruct them not to pay for it. Also called a new DME and asked if it was possible to return this machine and get the right one from them. She said I could do that and they have the S9 AutoSet in stock.

On the top of the machine just above the Start/Stop button it is written "Escape Auto". That is the only way I knew it was not a S9 AutoSet. None of the reference books had a name on them.

Good for you! I'd like to be a mouse in the DME when you take it back.
Thanks for the description.

What is the name of the DME company that did this to you?

Re: DME gave me the wrong machine S9 autoset doesn't say ESCAPE

I have an S9 Auto set and it clearly says AUTOSET by button and Escape is no where on it but at a glance the machines look the same. Prob same cover?

One thing I've definitely learned from this site is how not to be taken by any DME. I realize how meek I was at first... no longer. I say exactly what I want, and let them know (very politely) that I will go elsewhere if I don't get it. They seem to realize pretty quickly who they can fool with and who they can't... and then bend over backwards when they realize you are on to them. Big change in their attitude when they figured out I wasn't a dummy.

I bet he will suddenly have an S9 Autoset in stock for you if you will stay.

I'm confused...I checked our host and they only show 1 autoset. They do not show an Escape Autoset.

Google it. I don't know how long it's been around, but we seem to be hearing more about it lately.
