Any Aussies on here....

Post by Katagal » Mon Sep 19, 2011 4:57 am

I have learned a lot and felt supported whenever I have posted a question on this forum. I just wanted to share my happiness at having had excellent success with the new style nasal pillow mask with the machine set to automatic. My appointment today was with RESMED (trading as Resleep) at Mt Gravatt Brisbane when the data was downloaded showed me having less than 1 apnoea event and some nights no apnoea events and I can feel the difference in my body.
Now the downside at having to pay for the machine but really am not terribly worried about it, that's what credit cards are for and I need to maintain motivation to keep working (just kidding)

I have to ask what does DME, DH and other acronyms stand for

Ever curious

Hi from a fellow Queenslander.

Local pharmacies here are the main resellers of CPAP equipment. I was pointed in my prescription notes to some Air Liquide mob.
All local sources I checked were hideously overpriced.

I ended up purchasing my machine from the U.S. of A, as it was 3 times cheaper (and that was including the $200 worth of postage)..
we are being seriously rorted over here..

Unfortunately the only way to get ResMed products in this country is to be ripped off by local supply chain..

I am quite happy with my Philips Respironics machine.

Another Aussie, actually there's quiet a few.
Can you please fill in your equipment list, but it looks as if you have a ResMed S9 Autoset? If so I think its the best but that's personal.
If you are "Ever curious", you can do what what most members here do and get a copy of the ResScan software and do your own downloads. You can then really take control of your own treatment and track your progress, in most cases its not difficult no matter what the service providers say.
The download link is under Uncle-Bobs avatar in post
viewtopic.php?t=52732
Best of luck and welcome.

Another Aussie here - My name is peter and I have been using cpap for 48 hours or 2 nights - I have slept like a log in the last 2 nights only have one problem though I have to use a chin strap over my Mirage FX mask and I noticed this morning I had a red mark over the bridge and side of my nose I hope this does not get worse as the treatment continues because I am feeling real good on cpap after only 2 days of use.

I might drop the chin strap and just tape my mouth shut also noticed a sore bottom gum around the edges of my bottom teeth { Bummer } I really love cpap and hope this does not get anyworse.

Take care Peter.

p.s. My cpap machine is a resmed s8 autoset spirit and it tells me my mask fitting is excellent on the reader layout I suppose I could loosen the straps a little and just go for a " good fit reading" from the cpap machine my point is I don't want these red marks on my nose to get anyworse - I can;t think of anything else to do.

@ Peter - Red marks means your mask is too tight. In small increments loosen it up so as not to cause leaks.
Message those red marks, this will restore oxygen back to those areas. Your skin is suffocating from lack of oxygen.

Another Aussie here as well. I had no idea there are so many. The problem with Resmed and their pricing in Australia, yes know it well. they are blaming the Australian government saying the US subsidises CPAP and Australia doesnt. Two ways out. 1. Just dont buy Resmed. 2. Find other places to buy rather than direct from Resmed. I suggest e bay. I have had some success there.

Thanks for the quick reply Starlette - would wearing a tight fitted chin strap over my FX mask also make my FX mask even tighter than it is supposed to be over the area of my nose - "by loosening up "

do you mean my FX mask straps as well as the chin strap or just op for taping my mouth closed drop the use of the chin strap and lossen my FX mask straps little by little as you suggested.

Thank you - Peter

If I am wearing a nasal mask I put the chin strap on first. This stops the mask being tighter than I want. If I am using nasal pillows I put the chin strap on last. This gives the nasal pillows a little more support.

OK - Roger that Ozze_dollar - from one aussie to another - thanks for the info mate. - Peter

p.s. Go the pies in the AFL Final.

p.p.s. I think I will drop the chin strap for a couple of nights until my bottom gum heals - just tape my big gob shut instead.

ResMed RipOff in Australia

Post by Guest » Wed Sep 21, 2011 3:40 am

Hi:

I got the top of the line APAPIntelliPap AutoAdjust from CPAP(DOT)COM with a nice F&P Opus 360 mask, it includes, the humidifier, the Smartlink Module and all software plus spare filters and hose insulator for $976USD.

ResMed are an Australian company and F&P are a New Zealand company yet both companies sell their products for 2 - 3 times the price the same items sell for in the USA. Resmed in fact specifically prohibit cpap(DOT)com from exporting Resmed products to Australia! Now that is a real kicker isn't ! Think about it, the products are probably made in NSW then reexported to the US and meanwhile the same items are sold here at inflated prices.

I'm sure if you asked them you would hear the same pathetic dribble about economies of scale etc.

Well, people bitch about Apple products being about 15% dearer here, how would we feel if an iPad cost $1500 here?

If you can avoid Resmed then do so as there are better products out there, and certainly much cheaper when purchased from the USA.

Grant
PS. I tried ordering a Resmed mask but was specifically barred and had to remove it from my order...GOOD!!!

Here, here with regard to Resmed. I refuse to buy any of their machines however i have to use their FFM which is the only one out of all the FFM that works the best (albeit, not great). Mind you, i did buy this mask from an aussie ebay seller so it ended up being the same price that you would pay for one in the US. Oh, i'm in Sydney btw. Hello to my fellow countrymen (and women).

I'm not an Aussie but I have family in NSW (go Steelers!) and owe a debt of gratitude to those Down Under:

1. For years I suffered with stomach ulcers with no relief. It was an Aussie who proved ulcers were caused by bacteria and could be cured with simple antibiotics. I was cured in three weeks after spending thousands on tests, failed treatments, etc.

2. It was an Aussie who devised the first cpap to treat OSA.

So whatever you guys are doing, keep doing it and send it my way!

@ Peter - loosen the mask by making the little at a time while watching out for leaks.
Rule of thumb has always been the bottom straps are loose than top straps.

Also go "User Control Panel" and register your equipment there. Also display equipment as text not pictures. Makes it easier for folks to see what you have.
