My posts were restored!!

Post by SleepingUgly » Sun Jun 05, 2011 8:07 am

It was mildly annoying/amusing when my first post on my thread, "Can I have my own thread?" disappeared. But those of you have been around awhile might remember when I posted my "I don't have a bona fide diagnosis" thread before my OSA diagnosis and uploaded a table of stats from all my previous sleep studies, as several of you commented on it, including Dr. Park. Then I posted a thread labeled "I have a bona fide diagnosis -- epilogue to my story". They are both gone:

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=47828&p=479742&hili ... is#p433718

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=52012&p=480562&hili ... ue#p479667

And you may recall my methodical documentation of my surgery and recovery? Gone too:

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=53157&st=0&sk=t&sd= ... fe#p491926

I came here with decades of misdiagnosis and NO sleep disordered breathing diagnosis when I arrived at cpaptalk, ON an empirical trial of CPAP. I already know my long saga, the outcome, how to prepare for surgery, and what the outcome of my surgery was. But leaving it up and updating it was so that it would help others who came here looking for answers.

Whoever is attempting to hurt me by methodically deleting hundreds of my posts has hurt everyone that could have ever benefited from them.

Edited: Actually, I see that the vast majority of all my posts have been deleted. This must have been a very time consuming project for someone.

Yes, the administrators can tell who did it.

Can anyone other than administrators delete user posts other than their own?

Yes.

After 90 days of membership we get a "Spam" button which we can use to remove real spam. It is not supposed to be used to delete legit member posts. Site administrators will have access to logs which would show whomever has used the spam button on SU's posts. There is a record generated when board changes like this occur.

Is there any way for the Administrator, or "trusted" original posters, to "UnDelete" or "UnSpam" messages that get deleted. I guess I am wondering if the message is actually deleted or only flagged as such (and then not displayed) in the database.

I do feel if this happens to threads or posts that are not truly spam, regardless of the motivation, it does negatively impact the real value of the forum and the information contained in its many threads.

Having only been here for the past 7 months or so I found many of the older posts to provide invaluable information that helped me greatly understand my condition and what to expect.

Yes, I believe the admins can restore the posts. Send them a message about this so they can find out who did it and take away their spam button privileges and restore the posts.

Hi SU

Don't worry - if they were wrongly deleted Admin will reinstate them. A weekend may take a little longer than the usual few hours, and a PM to Caroline would do no harm.

cheers

It's tough to justify deleting one post, let alone 30+ pages of one person's posts. I'm sure Admin will take care of it.

Edited: Actually, it turns out to be a couple thousand posts.

I'm sorry this happened to you. I hope the powers that be take care of it quickly. Knowing about this does clear up some of my confusion when reading your thread. I kept seeing responses to, and quotes from, posts by you that I couldn't find even though I thought I was reasonably rested.

Amendment: I searched for my posts by my name, and yes, the first 30 pages or so that I posted are gone. A few pages remain, but then the blank pages resume. In short, the vast majority of my whatever I've written was deleted.

Deleting this many of my posts required someone to search for my posts only and delete each of thousands of posts. It required a great deal of time to do this. Someone organized, systematic, and deliberate.

I don't get it. Why you?

I thought I was losing it when I saw people responding to your posts and went back to see why I hadn't seen that particular post and it wasn't there.

I'm sorry this happened to you, but I'm sure admin will get it straight.

Wow! I thought that it was only the one post. I can't believe it! You are absolutely right that old posts and their sequencing are very very important. i was reading a thread just this morning that I am interested in and I referenced it by looking up a member who has symptoms similar to mine and looked at all the old posts, one thread in particular. It is so valuable and educational. I try to save other people's time by first researching a topic to see what has already been said before I jump in and ask a question that may have been covered elsewhere. And when a new topic is posted that has already been discussed a lot I am so amazed by the generosity of others who put a lot of time and effort into their responses. What a team we have here - "Teamwork makes Dreams Work" - so to speak.
