ResMed S9 Elite

Just got this machine a week ago. Included the humidifier, slimline hose. Against DME's advice, I will be monitoring my own data with ResMed software.

Anyway, I'm wondering if there are any ResMed S9 Elite users out there, and if so, what is your experience with it (Pros and Cons) and tips or suggestions. Thanks.

I am curious. What machine did the DME try to sell you?

Given that my insurance company would cover the entire cost of any CPAP machine, I did some research and also contacted one of the larger DME companies near where I live. At the end of the day, it seemed like the S9 Elite was the product of choice.

Would you have recommended something different?

I agree with this post:

The S9 Elite is an excellent machine and all that many people need. This site has lots of S9 Elite users. Some people may need an AutoSet, but not everyone. If your AHI is consistently low with the S9 Elite, I would have no regrets about not getting the AutoSet.

S9 Autoset. Considering the billing code is the same and the cost variation is $50 or less(so I have been told) The S9 would have offered your the most flexibility and bang for the buck. An auto machine can also run in straight CPAP mode. I use mine is straight CPAP mode....but I know if I need to titrate or make changes...I can.

Thanks. I've been using my Elite for 7 days and the average AHI is .4 (point 4). My apnea events during the sleep study was 66 per hour, so it's a big difference.

Just as an FYI, I did not care that my sleep doctor sent the DME company a copy of my study report without notifying me of the results. I let him know as such and will be expecting a copy at my 4 week follow-up. I'll try to remember to post the results.

What is your pressure? What is your leak rate?

I 'drove' an S9 Elite for the first 9 or 10 months; and it was a great machine.
I upgraded myself to an S9 Autoset as I was going on a weight loss program and wanted to make sure one fixed pressure didn't wreck my efforts,
as weight changes are said to alter pressure requirements.
I am happy with either, and I have a great back-up.

I have a S9 Elite and its working great for me so far. I've been using it since Mar 20... The biggest factor for me was the mask not the machine. I do better with pillows than a nasal mask.

I also just got the S9 Elite! Trying it with the Mirage FX for the first time tonight.

Thanks. Pressure is at 12. I'll have to check the leak rate later. I will be getting a new nasal mask tomorrow, so I'll have more accurate data to report in a week or two.

Great. Can you let me know (tomorrow morning if possible) how the FX worked for you tonight? I'm going in tomorrow morning to choose a new mask and I'm leaning towards the FX. Thanks a bunch

I don't know why I was given the Elite VS the Autoset S9. I too am in the process of losing weight. (I'm a T2 diabetic as well.) Do you think I should ask for an Autoset when I go in to the DME tomorrow? I understand the Autoset can also be set to "manual" for the time being if that's what the doctor wants.

My insurance is footing the bill 100%. Plus, I am the type of person that strives to know more about my treatment and devices than the glorified high school graduates working at the DME company. I have no problem walking in tomorrow morning and saying, "I would like to exchange the Elite for the Autoset" and you can bet I will not take no for an answer.

An important part of my research involves people of this forum. So, thank you all.
