Dealing with High Pressures

Post by dunkonu23 » Fri Apr 22, 2011 5:18 am

Hi,

Since August, I've been on BiPAP therapy with pressures of 16/20. (16 exhale, 20 inhale.) I'm using a Quattro Full Face mask and here's the problem: The mask has to be so tight to seal that:

1) Left really bad cuts on my nose;
2) Left really bad indentations/sores on my cheeks, and;
3) Swollen areas beneath my eyes (which go away after an hour or so);
4) Leaves boils just inside my hairline on the back of head.

I've done all I can to lessen the items above. My mask is as loose as I can get it and maintain seal--I adjust it ramp off at full pressure. I'm using a mask liner and it helps some, but it's not enough. I'm posting here to find out how others have dealt with/are dealing with high pressures, and to ask what mask they're using. Before BiPAP, I used to use a Mirage Liberty hybrid mask and loved it, but under pressures higher than 14, the nasal pillows blow out. There has got to be something out there that can seal and be at least semi comfortable.

Thanks in advance,

Scott

Ever tried the original Hybrid? Like the one in my signature?

No, I haven't. I take it your pressures are high, as well?

Thanks!

13/20 a few points below yours but others use it with a higher pressure.

another place to check (if you can find it!) is the lab rat fixes thread. Sometimes folks use other things (usually ladies tights) to tie the pillows in.

That is very interesting! It's enouraging that your inhale pressue is just as high as mine. The nasal pillows don't blow out? If not, I'm thinking I need to get a copy of my prescription and get moving on getting that mask as I am literally at the end of my rope dealing with my current mask.

personally I don't have many problems with the pillows dislodging.

with the original Hybrid... the important strap to get adjusted is the over the head strap. There's actually 3 points of headgear adjustment and 3 sets of pillows and 3 sets of mouth cushions in the full pack. Gives you lots of chances to adjust stuff and to get it right.

Thanks for your time in replying. I've found the Lab Rat Awards thread and checked out the mods to the Liberty, so I've got a weekend to play. If I can't get the Liberty working, I'll give up the Quattro and go for the Hybrid. Thank you, again!

Hi Dunkonu - I love your location. It would probably take another Michigander to grasp the humor tho. The area was mentioned in a question of Want To Be A Millionaire just a couple of weeks ago. Or was it Jeopardy?

I'm in the middle, just SW of the Bay.

Thanks! I'm actually more Northeast of Hell. I've actually never been to Hell, but who knows... maybe one day, I'll see it for myself.

Well as another Michigander I can say I've been to Hell and back, (though not in a hand basket). In fact, I'm not far from Hell. There have been some cold days in Hell recently Ever go to the Damn Site Inn? kathy

Really??? I LOVE the green rolling hills and the trees and streams in most of Michigan - except this darn valley. Its not at all pretty to me. I guess the grass is always greener, eh?? I haven't lived in SE Michigan but I have just about everywhere else from the UP to the upper lower peninsula to SW portion of the state to ...
