Advice desperately needed.....
I have been on CPAP since 2002 and I just had a third sleep study. My new sleep doctor said that I have extreme OSA with Hyposomnia. He is supposed to have my machine pressure raised from 12 to 14. I have been having trouble getting it raised because the women at the desk do not give my messages to him. Here in N.Y. the doctors like to over book and we get treated like cattle. I have an appt. to see him on March 2nd so hopefully I will have the pressure issue under control. My question is, once they raise my pressure, will the daytime sleepiness go away? My doc says I don't go into rem sleep or that I don't complete rem sleep. I sleep atleast 6 hours a night. Lately, I wake up 1-2 times to use the bathroom. But I feel so dam exhausted, that I can take 1-2 naps a day. In fact, about an hour after waking, I can go back to sleep. Even after having my morning coffee. I am not eligable to get a new machine through my insurance but I would like to get a new SMART machine by purchasing it through CPAP.com. What is a good machine that I should get? I want to have my sleep doctor write me up a script on Wed. and get a new machine. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Re: Advice desperately needed.....
Do you have the software that will show you the actual graphs as to what goes on each night?
Has anyone done any data analysis from your machine to see if even you are getting effective treatment? To see if that might explain things?
Smart machine? Are you referring to an APAP machine?
CPAP machines deliver straight pressure like the machine you have now.
APAP machines offer a range of pressures that will fluctuate plus they can also be used in straight CPAP mode. So essentially 2 machines in one.
I would get the APAP for that reason. As far a brand? The ResMed has much more daily detail data available than the Respironics machine which only offer 7 and 30 day averages. Depends on if you want or need software and which you like the best.

Re: Advice desperately needed.....
You can change your own pressures. I do not know how it is done with your particular machine but I am sure someone on this board can give you that information. It is hard to know how changes in pressures will affect you if you don't have a data capable machine. I started reading this board before my sleep study and already knew which machine I wanted. I had my regular doc write a prescription for the exact machine I wanted and I got it.
Good luck!
Good luck!

REMstar Pro 2 Setup
When in the Setup Menu, the humidifier ^ and ramp v buttons operate as up and down keys to change the settings, the left/right user buttons < > allow you to go to the previous/next question or setting, and the pressure start/stop button is used to exit the Setup Menu. Holding the humidifier or ramp buttons down will cause the values to change more quickly.
To enter the Therapy Setup Menu, hold the two top user buttons < > down while plugging in the power cord.
Continue holding the buttons down until the REMstar Pro 2 with C-Flex beeps twice. (about 5 seconds)
Note: The word "setup" will appear on all of the screens indicating that you are in the Therapy Setup Menu.
If you press the Pressure start/stop button, you will exit the Setup Menu.

My personal choice if I were going to buy a new cpap/autopap would be the ResMed S9 Autoset.
But different machines can treat different people, differently. Some brands don't suit some people.
if you had a choice, which machine would you get?

Even if a person can get effective treatment from just about any brand or type of machine (fortunately, I can) a particular feature of the machine itself or how it reports data can tip a preference one way or another.
Good luck, NY'er, and please keep posting to let us know how it goes for you!

Yes we know about those fine sleep pros who do just a dandy job for patients.NEW YORKER wrote: I have been on CPAP since 2002 and I just had a third sleep study. As for a machine, I recommend
https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/respi ... -flex.html
or
https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machine/resme ... chine.html
Get the software for the machine you choose so you control the effectiveness of the therapy (see viewtopic.php?f=1&t=60874&start=0).
Once you choose a machine ask here about the software and someone will help you.

Re: Advice desperately needed.....
If you're going to be buying a new APAP out of pocket, you might want to consider getting the same brand and series so that you can use the humidifier you already have with the new machine--you will save yourself a few hundred dollars not having to buy a new humidifier, too. The series M Philips Respironics APAP is a good enough machine. There's a newer model--System One, but if you're paying out of pocket you may need consider the costs (or maybe not, depending on your financial situation).
The best machine out there seems to be the ResMed S9 APAP, but the Philips Respironics System One APAP is a close second. Another consideration is that if you have to later switch to a Bi-PAP, you can get a new System One BiPap and use the same humidifier, but there is no S9 Bi-Pap at this time.

Re: Advice desperately needed.....
My hubby and I both have the S9 Autoset; and we recommend it highly.
If I'm not mistaken, I believe your current machine has data; however, I doubt you would have been given the software.
Besides, if this is your original machine, it is well past the 'expiration date'.
Software, in most cases, is a patient expense--insurance will not cover it.
Fortunately, the Resmed software is not for sale to patients, but can be downloaded free.
Folks on this forum will help you if that's the machine you get.

Your machine is fully data capable... however... not on the LCD. In order to get the data you must have both the software and the card reader (Mako DT3500 is the only one that works)
