Didn't get my APAP
Didn't get my APAP
I saw my Sleep Doctor yesterday and my titration has been set at 10 on CPAP. I was disappointed to not get an APAP but our wonderful Ontario government makes it difficult to get. I would have to go back for another sleep study (wait 3 months) and then there can only be a differential of 4 sleeping on my back and my side. There was no guarantee that I would qualify so I decided to settle on the CPAP. I envy those of you in the US who can get an APAP with no problem!
I went to the DME provider today to pick up my S9 Elite. It will be an adjustment starting at 10 when I was used to staying at 5 until I fell asleep. I may try the ramp until I get used to it. I'm interested to see if there are any differences in my apneas with straight CPAP. My DME couldn't have been better, so helpful. She used to be an RT. I've heard horror stories on this forum about DME's but mine couldn't have been better.
My Dr. doesn't want to see me again unless I have a problem and then my GP would have to refer me again to her. It takes approximately 3 mos at the hospital for a study and quite a wait to see her. All in all, I'm doing quite well. I got copies of my study and prescription. The Dr. noted I'm a little unusual in that I had more apneas on my side than on my back. I would have staked my life on the fact I didn't sleep at my sleep study, but I had 2 1/2 hrs. apparently. I still can't believe that!
This is such a wonderful forum and I've learned so much. Thank you.

Re: Didn't get my APAP
The S9 Elite is still a good machine at least it is data capable.
It seems to me (from what has been posted on this forum) that people here in the states have a bad time with the DME's in getting what they want. I was a lucky one in that the DME I went to, only gives out the S9 auto, well at least that is what they had on hand she would of ordered one that I wanted. It seems though that I am in the minority when it comes to a first time good experience with a DME.

Re: Didn't get my APAP
When I was tested in N. Scotia 6 yrs ago the tech brought me (house call!) a new Apap without blinking... and that was long before I knew the difference between that and a power drill! I wouldn't assume it's a Canada vs U.S. thing, more like an Ontario vs ... the rest of us.

Re: Didn't get my APAP
I really love my S9 Elite. My husband figured how to use the software to get loads of efficacy data.
Have you got the software yet? Look for Uncle Bob on this forum. . .
We also have the clinical manual; some DME's shut off the info menus--WHY? @#$%^&?

aww shucks, sorry you didnt get your apap...
but at least your machine is therapy data capable, so if you do need to change your pressure you can if you want to..
thats amazing that you had more apneas on you side than your back, did he have an explantion for that?
It just goes to show, everyone is different..
I hope you and your new machine hit it off very nicely

I love my S9 Elite. I have EPR set at 2. At 13 cm, I have no problem with the pressure. It is very smooth and quiet.

Sounds like you have a good physician that doesn't want to treat your symptoms, only the cause. If you want an APAP, go find a bad doctor.

Re: Didn't get my APAP
Finding a "bad doctor" won't help me in Ontario unless I want to pay out of pocket. The government won't pay unless I "qualify." My insurance company won't pay their portion unless the government pays theirs. I know the Elite is a good machine, it's just I liked the Auto, although I love the machine itself, just wish it was auto...oh well.
I noticed last night I had quite a few leaks...my mouth...with the constant pressure! So tonight I'll tape and see the difference.
Yes, I do have the software and use it daily.

Well just come to Quebec - then you can get anything you want - and pay full price. They are still talking about covering the xpaps.SharonC wrote:Finding a "bad doctor" won't help me in Ontario unless I want to pay out of pocket. The government won't pay unless I "qualify." Re: Didn't get my APAP
Hi Sharon,
You have a good machine in the S9 and probably had lots less hassle than many of us do in the US to get a machine that provides full data.
Just out of curiosity, did they provide you with the climateline hose?

Re: Didn't get my APAP
Yes, I was provided the Climateline hose. I had ordered that so it was in the price. They also gave me an ordinary hose, 2 spray bottles for cleaning the mask, a large bottle of distilled water and a hose cover. I said I didn't think that climateline hose needed a cover and she said it didn't but it would protect against the headboard or cats, which love the hose. I also purchased extra the new take-apart humidifier chamber. They said I could use tap water with it, so that is an advantage when travelling.

Re: Didn't get my APAP
ResMed has stated that hose covers should not be used with the ClimateLine hose. Covers are fine with the SlimLine or standard hoses.

Who told you that? It cannot be true. I live in Ontario and ADP paid for my APAP after just one sleep study, plus a titration study - no need for a second sleep study.
Where do you live that it takes 3 months to get a sleep study? It only takes a week or so to get in for a study in Toronto.
Eventually, you will realize that you need to buy a backup xpap, anyway. ADP will not pay for this so it's at your own expense. My suggestion is that you make this purchase an APAP rather than a simple CPAP. Your Rx for CPAP will get you an APAP if you buy it online.
I'm workin' on it.
