resmed users only!

Post by ephskiing377 » Thu Apr 08, 2010 1:44 pm

Fellow cpapers,
I was wondering what are your daily AHI numbers are with your resmed cpap machines. I get any where from 4.0 up to 7x7.0 for a night. How do you resmed machine users get your AHI below 5? I wear the mirage liberty full face and my leak rate is always 0.0 l/s. Any help would be nice.

Sincerely,
Chad

With the numbers lower on the S9 do you feel any different? or is real or just from seeing lower numbers? Do the lower numbers reflect better outcomes or just a different alogrithm?

Oh yes, its not just about the numbers, I'm actually feeling very very rested.

I no longer yawn in the afternoon.
I can jump out of bed in the mornings
I can stay up until midnight and watch movies again
I can stay focused on my work for longer periods
I am no longer procrastinating
I am much less nervous
I can remember stuff again
I'm not so clumsy or forgetful
And can now wear my kids out before they wear me out

Its a better outcome

Can you download your data and post some of it for everyone for view.

I have an S8 Elite II and my AHI on average is 1.1 for a thirty day period with no AHIs over 1.7 so I do not go along with the whole idea of the S9 being the solution to your problem. I use a Mirage Quatro FF Mask and my leak average for the same 30 day period is .03. What I would suggest you try is using the altitude adjustment on your machine to adjust your pressure either up or down and see what your results are. If you adust it to the next highest or lowest altitude it is basically the same as raising or lowering your pressure by one.
The new S9 has allot of new tweaks but as far as any major differences in the pressure treatment itself it is not that much different other than being the latest and greatest new machine. Pressure treatment is the key so as long as your machine is accurate it is the same. Which brings up my next suggestion, you may need to have your machine checked to make sure it is putting out the correct pressure.
Also remember that the machine data is not a sleep study and should only be looked at as a way to tweak your treatment.

It sounds like the original poster doesn't have his pressure set high enough.

Any chance you can try an APAP to verify the most suitable pressure?

My AHI on an S8II is around 2.4 and on the S9 is 0.

My S9 AHI has averaged 1.2. The highest has been 1.9. The lowest 0.4.

I had similar results of 4-7 AHI when using an S8 AutoSet II, with the vast majority of the number made up of hypopneas. There is a lot of people on this site that say that the S8 ResMed machines tend to over-report hypopneas. So... are most of your events hypopneas? Since I got my S9, my AHI has been much lower (under 1 most nights), but I think it is partly the reporting is improved/changed, and part better treatment with the enhanced AutoSet algorithm on the S9 (it gets to higher pressures when needed in response to apneas over 10 that the S8 would not).

I agree with bigk that maybe using an APAP for a while to determine if your pressure is right might be a good idea... if your pressure is too low as to miss handling some of your events, increasing it could help your overall AHI.

Uncle_Bob,

Does this mean you have noticed this since swapping to an S8 from some earlier version ? (i.e. S8 or S8 II ? ).

Am guessing that you are meaning cpap therapy has made those changes & not just one model ?

Cheers

When I was using my S8 AutoSet II, I found was more comfortable on cpap, after trying it on apap. On cpap, my averages in for February were: AHI 3.9, AI .2, HI 3.7.

Using the S9 AutoSet, I recently switched to apap, and find it very comfortable, even at a slightly higher pressure. Average for past 8 days: AHI .3, AI .2, OAI 0, CAI .2, HI .3

Using cpap mode, I kept increasing the pressure, .4 cm at a time, and leaving it for a week, until I found the balance between low apneas, and not having aerophagia. I also try to sleep on my side, because apneas increase if I'm on my back.

When I was using my S8's I would get an AHI average of 4.5, now on the S9 I get an average AHI of 0.3.

Thanks
Dave

fellow cpapers,
how do you change the altitude on the resmed s8 elite II cpap machine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sincerely,
Chad

It's done automatically.
By the way, do you have a copy of the clinician's manual - many of your questions can be answered by reading it.

If you're trying to raise your pressure, a better way would be just to raise your pressure, rather than changing the altitude setting. That way, your data will reflect what is actually happening.

I see by your profile that you have ResScan 3.7. If you post your reports, then people can help you analyze your data.
