Call For Feedback: Equipment Display In Msg Footers

Post by johnnygoodman » Wed Mar 10, 2010 6:49 pm

Howdy All,

Its been a while! I was going to make this a poll, but I've got two streams of decisions.

1. What if instead of setting which way you wanted YOUR equipment profile to show, you set which way you wanted to view all equipment profiles? Your options would be text links or images. The mouse over would be thrown in if you decided to view images.

2. If that isn't agreeable, and its better to set what all view for your post than to set how you view all posts, then I have to poll people to ask if they'd rather the options for display are image, text or to retain the "both" feature.

Another thing I'm asked regularly is "why doesn't my equipment show up on the list". The answer is that we generate the list from CPAP.com to ensure its standardized. This isn't perfect, but its fast and easy. One day, I will have it changed but its a low priority.

I'll read individual comments on this and then launch a poll based people favoring a "style 1" or "style 2" approach above. After that poll concludes, we'll set it as the majority decides.

Good feedback!

Johnny

PS. Here's the original suggestion thread: viewtopic/t50056/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=50056&p=459677. A tip of my cap to snnnark for the great suggestion.

It's hard to see how you could go wrong letting the viewer choose. He or she has a bigger stake in the choice than the person profiled. I'll bet, though, that the overwhelming majority choose text. If you could only have one, it would be text. In theory a glance at a picture is quick, but lots of families of CPAP machines look the same, and masks are hard to make out, so in practice images require a click and waiting time.

I vote for the text ever how you want to set it up either I control mine or they do. I don't care much for mouseovers mainly cuz the crowd we get here is not all that computer savvy and one has to know or it really is useless.

The links to cpap.com I have no probs with. In fact, I remember people getting upset bc there isn't a direct link elsewhere on the page (like in the header) to cpap.com. Maybe just call it Shop or hey CPAP.com

While we are at it can I ask why (since that last major forum update) can I only send a PM to one person and can no longer cc others?
Thanks

I'm also in favor of the first option. It's quicker to see the text. But if others want to view the image, more power to them. Great idea!

Agree with PST for the reasons he cited.

I like option 1. However, I would like to retain the ability to decide whether my equipment shows at the foot of my posts.

I prefer text and would love to be able to set my viewing parameters for equipment profiles that way. Thanks for asking, Johnny!

Text.

I remember when I first started on this forum, I thought the pictures were great, but then realized I did not know the names of what I was looking at. I quickly changed from the pictures to text.

I also prefer option One. Thanks for asking, Johnny.

My preference is for text.

Given that the lists are generated from CPAP.COM (highly practical), is it possible to have a "fill in the blank" if one's equipment isn't listed on CPAP.COM?

EG, I use a CL2 mask (listed) but I use it with direct seals (not listed).

Text for the messages, definitely

But -- I wonder if while filling the profile the process can be improved.
Can you add a feature in the profile so than when the text is selected, a picture shows up for the user that asks "is this how your equipment looks" ? That would solve some of the "older model/newer model" confusions that happen when people aren't aware of the differences.
