Mattresses?

Post by janeysmom » Sun Feb 14, 2010 1:46 pm

I am thinking that my husband and I need to get a new mattress (it is really old!) and maybe a new bed too. We currently sleeping in a full size which he likes but I am thinking I'd want to move to a queen size bed. But no matter what I want to find a mattress that works for us. I tend to move a lot in my sleep and try my best to sleep on my side. But I would really like to get a mattress that would reduce my thrashing. Which leads me to my question, what would you recommend for a mattress? What you are using and is it successful? Thanks!

We LOVE our Tempur-Pedic mattress! But, mattresses are really a matter of personal preference.

checkout the memory foam mattresses at costco, you can thrash all you want on one and it will not bother your partner.

Tempur-Pedic here also. Wife and I have been on it for a little over two years now. I wasn't sure about it at first because I was afraid it would be a little too firm for my liking but have to say it hasn't been an issue. It is a queen size. We splurged and got the model that raises your head and leg area plus built in massager. It was more expensive than most but we got 36 month same as cash financing and if it lasts as long as it is supposed to; it will probably outlast me.

Mattresses are preference. I've tried quite a few, I found one that I liked. Try visiting mattress stores, lay on a few till you find one that you/hubby will like. I do not like soft mattresses or therapeutic etc..... I prefer semi hard mattresses.

If my pillow is not just right, I will sleep poorly. Stop purchasing $5.00 pillows, stuffing 3 into one pillow case tried an expensive brand, and been happy ever since.

Never thought pillows would make a major difference in how I sleep.

Good luck finding the comfort mattress

Here is a consumersaffairs web site talking about mattresses.http://www.consumeraffairs.com/furnitur ... pedic.html
We have found the latex mattress to be firm but not hard so you can not sleep. Before "sleep Apnea days"I would kick and move all around the bed.Now with better breathing I sleep mostly on my side.Do research before you buy.Another site to use is http://blog.pennlive.com/mattress/index.html.He tells the truth for all your aliments.

Have Fun.....Wes

Hi there---We have a Cal King and LOVE that size! HAHAAHA! The bigger the better. (Size does matter!)---More room to move around. I am only 5 ft 4 but hubby is 6 ft 2 ---so thus why we have a Cal King. We like many others have been sleeping on a Posturpedic Back Supporter firm mattress for the last 13 years. We loved it at first--it was nice and firm. Now that I have sleep apnea and we are getting older--it is just waaaaay to firm for us. Me mostly!! I am a side sleeper and have siatic problems so the mattress just aggravates my hips. We have a memory foam topper on it along with a waffle foam pad to try to make it softer. We are so ready for a new mattress!!!

We thought of a Tempur-Pedic --RipVW--how do you like yours? DOes it make you hot at nice? We live in Arizona so my husband doesn't want anything to make him hot at night. (beside me -LOL!)---hahahaaha

Thanks all! I wish we could get a king but our bedroom is too small. So the largest size I can see us getting would be a queen. I look forward to seeing others chime in on this subject. I decided to post this since many of us are side sleepers and have sleep apnea thus curious to see what others have found to be good mattresses to sleep on.

I really miss sleeping on a plain water bed. The heater went out in our waterbed and I couldn't find a replacement, so we got a good innerspring mattress. We got a very thick firm mattress with a soft pillow top, which is quite comfortable. I am concerned about dust mites, so I put a plastic mattress cover on it and cover the plastic cover with a thick cotton mattress pad. The plastic cover is like a cheap shower curtain liner, but with the cotton mattress pad you can't tell that there is a nasty plastic sheet on the bed.

Tempur-Pedic here and love it. I have noticed that temperature will change the firmness. Cooler=firmer and warmer=softer.

We have a king size bed. Wouldn't trade down for anything since it allows plenty of room for use to move around at night.

Last summer I came across a great buy on a latex foam mattress. I found that is was a little to firm for my liking so went out and purchased a Cool-Max four inch mattress topper (it is tempurpedic). Oh man what a difference.

No pressure points and my back hasn't bothered me nearly as much. I did some research on latex foam mattresses and if I remember right the firmness is controlled by the amount of holes in the manufacturing process.

At this point I wouldn't go back to an innerspring mattress unless it was absolutely no other alternatives.

I think it's best that you buy a new mattress and bed plus pillows at the same time. This would help provide new comfort in your sleep.

My husband returned our Tempurpedic because it hurt his back. We have a Simmons, which reduces feeling the other person move.
