Much chance Ultra Mirage would work if Quattro didn't?

Post by SleepingUgly » Sun Jan 31, 2010 6:51 pm

Is there much chance an Ultra Mirage FF mask would work if the Quattro beat up the bridge of my nose? I was going to ask the DME to order a 431 for me to try and (if she's willing to order more than one) an Ultra Mirage or maybe a Forma (I'm not wowed by the ratings of the Forma on cpap.com, though...) Any opinions?

It seems that those who can't wear the Quattro do well with the UM and vice-versa. In my husband's case he could never adjust to the Quattro, nose issues, leaks and what he described as diminished air flow, but he's been successful with the UM for over a year. They both look similar but are very different in fit. He's never tried the 431 or Forma so I can't speak to those. Good luck and I'd be interested in your update if you decide to try the UM.

It is interesting how they can differ person by person. I was not able to use the Ultra Mirage F/F with my current machine but am able to get by well with a quattro.

The UMFF nose adjustment just didn't suit - either to much or too little adjustment (preset positions) whereas the corkscrew adjustment on the quattro allows me to choose the right forehead setting.

The quattro is a tad quieter too.

HI SU,

My current mask is the Quattro. It beat up my nose for about 10 days. After the first night, I put a piece of paper tape on the bridge of my nose at night. For a while I had a faint red mark, then apparently my nose became accustomed to it. Sorry it didn't work for you.

I'm down to one mask that will work for me, after trials & disappointments with others. If you Go the UM and like it, will you post your results. I would be interested.

Good luck

Jan

HI Gary,

I love it! I have a permanent red mark on the bridge of my nose. Do you use a comfort care pad? The description on that page says it should be "routinely" replaced, but doesn't give a hint as to what "routinely" means. Do you know? A week? Six weeks? Six months?

Doug.

I wish the Comfort Care would have worked for me. It's supposed to be replaced every 30 days, but may need it less frequently. I read on here that there is now an insurance code for Comfort Care.

It's hard (maybe impossible) to predict which mask will work with a person. I know the UM and the Quattro are very popular on the forum. I use the 431 which I got in case of congestion. (It is the one my DME uses) After having it a couple of months without using it, I decided to try it in case I needed it. That was Sept. 29 -- and I'm still using it. I haven't checked my card for a month, but Dec. 22 -28 I averaged AHI 1.41 -- OA 0.8 Pressure at 10.5. Don't know if it would work for you, but I like it.

Yes, I thought the Q sounded quieter too but Mike equated that with feeling a bit suffocated with not enough air moving inside the mask. He has the nose position adjused just right one up from the bottom.. Aah, sweet mystery of the masks!
