PR System One Resistance Settings for Mask?

Post by SleepingUgly » Thu Jan 28, 2010 1:40 pm

On the PR System One Auto, if one is not using a Respironics mask, should the System One Resistance Settings for the mask be set at all?

I read on another site to set it to X1 for full face masks, and I know The Hybrid operates as one, but should it be set to that?

What will this setting do for me over not setting it at all?

It compensates for the amount of air that each particular mask vents.

Someone posted a chart on the forum somewhere. I dont remember where it was. I just remember that my Comfort Gel mask was a 1 on the chart.

Thanks, although I'm not using a Respironics mask, so I'm not sure whether I should be setting it at all. If so, should I set it to X1 for the Hybrid, even though it's, well, a hybrid, and its span is less than a traditional full face mask? Or just leave it not set?

I tried to follow what my DME told me for the OPus 360 to use X4. I tried but I could not keep doing it. I just tried by how I feel the pressure.

I keep to X1 for most of my mask and my AHI is always between 0.1 - 0.7

Looking at the chart, the FFMs (which the Hybrid is) use X1. Could be the Hybrid has a higher vent rate than any of the Respironics FFMs...could check those mask's vent rates compared to the Hybrid's to confirm using X1.

I am using a Resmed Mirage Activa LT mask and also Swift LT pillows with System One. What resistance settings should I use with them?

my DME (who seems to be ok) said to leave it off...i am using a hybrid mask. i tried it set on 1 and it felt terrible, so i leave it off and have been doing fine.

If you are "doing fine" with it off, then I think you found your answer.

Another option would be to find a Respironics mask with a vent rate similar to the Hybrid and use that setting. (I'd guess that because the Hybrid has a smaller contained volume, it's vent rate would be LESS than a typical FF.)

I think they left it off for a reason. It felt just awful even on 1X, but I might be overly sensitive.

Still loving the liberty full face.

My nasal congestion has improved greatly since I have been on CPAP so I am going to try the EasyLife Nasal Mask. I have searched the Respironics site and cannot find the resistance setting for this mask. Based on the fact that all of the other nasal masks on the chart posted earlier in the thread use X1, I guess that I will leave it there. It just seems a little odd that the Mirage Quattro and the EasyLife nasal mask would use the same setting since the mask sizes are so different. Does anyone have any definitive info on this?

Does anyone have theirs set to X4 using a Swift LX with small nasal pillows? Notice any difference????

I have mine off right now--AHI's are great, but I wonder what would happen.

I would think that the resistance setting is based purely on the vent rate and not on the size of the mask.

Its all about how much pressure it releases through the vent. This tries to compensate for that.

OK. The vent rates are different too.
