OT: HE's a sick man, not a man of God.

This is one of the most shameful, horrendous quotes from an alleged clergy person. It doesn't get anymore offensive than this!

As a fundamentalist Christian myself, I agree that this really is taking it too far. The events that surrounded that 'pact with the devil' occurred hundreds of years ago, and God does not hold people accountable for the sins of their forebears under the new covenant. There is a doctrine that talks about a 'generational curse', but that doctrine has poor scriptural underpinnings, especially in a case like this.

The real fact is, as I understand it, is that Haiti lies on top of a plate tectonic 'subduction zone', and severe quakes/volcanoes are normal features of such areas. People that choose to live in those places need to understand that the risks of natural disasters there is much higher than normal.

Although he claims it for himself; I, too, don't consider Pat Robertson a "Christian" by ANY sense of the title. He may thump the same Bible, but he shares very few moral attributes with the rest of us.

One of my atheist, ultra-liberal colleagues claims such disasters are a part of natural selection. I'll bet few libs would identify with him, either.

I consider myself a good church-going Christian, and I am repelled by Robertson. Whether liberal or conservative, his judgmental side is just repellant in a situation like this. Haiti is 96% Christian, with 80% being Roman Catholic, and 16% of the population being Protestant.

That's just a horrible thing to say from one human to another regardless of religion.

Fanatics are fanatics regardless the religion they claim. People like him are enough to make anyone swear off of organized religion. Yet he manages to sucker millions of dollars out of people. Better they send it to relief agencies for the Haitians. The US is the country that ruined their economy in the first place. We all but destroyed the cane sugar industry in favor of our sugar beet industry. The pictures of the devastation are appalling and mind boggling!

The notorious FEMA trailers might be appreciated in Haiti right now.

That is one I am not up to date on, but it seems it was our government putting restrictions on imports of cane sugar and favoring corn producers in the massive farm bill. In addition to hurting cane sugar producers in the Caribbean, we ended up with subsidized high fructose corn syrup becoming 40% of caloric intake in the U.S.

Government interference in markets resulting in damage to the economies of our poor neighbors and contributes to damage of our population's health. When government "solves" one problem it usually creates several additional larger problems.

I'll stand corrected on that, Rooster. I live in a heavy sugar beet area.

Another boring generalization, most solutions to any problem have side effects or induce other problems, government initiated or not. No news here

Thanks for this, timbalionguy. I was listening to a Christian talk radio show today where they were talking about this same thing. And I agree, this is really going too far.

I won't go so far as to say he is not a man of God, as who am I to judge. I will say I find him deluded, simple minded, and self impressed without basis. I was embarassed for him at his supposed quote of the devil's verbal response to the Haitians in their "pact". "And the devil said" - YOU"VE GOT TO BE KIDDING! I am a christian, although I admit I've not been on the mainstream side on many matters. I have a hard time listening to what I consider pompous poop without speaking up. Doesn't always put me in a popular position.

Ok, I just erased the rest of my tirade. Enough said. Off my soapbox.
