Not enough moisture

Post by qjosea » Fri Jan 08, 2010 6:40 pm

I have the Resmed Adapt SV W/Humidifier H2. The problem started about the same time this cold weather came around. I was happy with the setting at two, now I have set to 3.5 and rising. The humidifier only goes to five, I don't have any rainout yet. I called my DME and they said a RT will get in touch with me. That was this afternoon, I'm not getting impatient. I just want to see if anyone else is having problems with thier humidifiers. I guess I will just keep on cranking up the numbers until I feel better or get rainout which ever comes first. The light on the humidifier just flickers it doesn't stay on is this the cause, maybe the humidifier doesn't work or is going out. I've had less than a month.

The cold air outside is probably much dryer than what's normal for your area. When it is colder out, your furnace has to run more which will dry it out. Do you have a humidifier on your furnace or in the room or a portable whole house humidifier?

I have a heat pump, I use a one room humidifier and keep downstairs. I will have to move it upstairs into the bedroom. I ordered a hygrometer, that should help me have an idea as to what is the humidity in my house. I will set the humidifier to four tonight and see if that helps. There is no relief heading my way, weather wise. The humidity is pretty low here for now.

Thanks,

Go to the store tomorrow buy a whole frying chicken, some celery, carrots, chicken, boulion and egg noodles and anything else you like in chicken soup and cook it up. It will help keep you warm in that cold weather and put a bunch of moisture back into the house.

Two birds one stone.

If you like split pee soup with ham, that cooks for a long time and puts out lots of moisture too.

Buy a chuck roast, several cans of beef bouillon, a few onions, couple cloves of garlic, some celery, few carrots, turnips/rutabaga/potatoes whichever you like. Brown chuck in some oil, cut up to fit pot if necessary; after browning, pour off most of oil. Chop garlic and cut onion in big pieces, toss 'em in the pot; add the canned beef broth to cover meat. Cover the pot and simmer at least 2 hrs (takes that long to break down the tough tissues). Chop whatever veggies you bought and add to the pot, add more broth to ensure they are covered. Simmer until the veggies are tender (likely 30+ mins more). Accomplishes the same thing without too much effort. Oh, if you like the taste of red wind, substitute half the broth with some red wine (inexpensive Chianti is good) the alcohol cooks off.

I'm not an "expert" on ResMed equipment, but I'm wondering why/how you ended up with an "H2" humidifier, when the "H4i" is the current model and supposedly much better at creating humidity. If my memory serves me, the humidifiers that preceded the H4i were pretty crappy.

You didn't mention if or how much water you're going through at night with your settings........

On the other hand, I never use heated humidity......even in the winter......can't stand warm air in my nasal passages. I can't even stand (for very long) to pull the hose under the covers with me. And, the house is < 60 degrees at night.

Wulfman, it barerly uses any water even when I had up to three. I will try to adjust it to four. I didn't use it last night because it makes my nose and throat feel so dry. I feel like I'm going to choke, I can't even get my mouth to produce any saliva to swallow. I end up taking off the mask to drink some water just to keep my mouth and throat moist. Then in the morning I feel so tired and sleepy. All I can do is wait for the weather to change, I keep telling myself one more week, according to the weatherman. We know how much to count on them. LOL!!!

Does the humidifier get warm? Is the water in it warm? Maybe it's broken?

From page 11 of the Humidaire 2i manual:

"Note: During operation, the heater plate light illuminates periodically to indicate
that the heating element is active. The HumidAire 2i has a rapid heating element
which allows very short heating times. Do not be concerned if the light only
flashes on very briefly

Rested gal: I did read this on the instruction manual of the H2i Humidifier. I have it currently set at four, I hope this does it, I have not had any rain out yet. I had before this a repironics bipap auto. The humidifier on this one was very good, anything above two or three you would have serious rainout. I've only had this H2i for about three weeks.

Today I called my RT and she told me to try something. She said to pull out the water tank, plug the outlet of the machine and turn it on. The hot plate should feel warn, well it did. I will just keep on turning up the dial until I feel the moisture is working or I get rainout, whichever come first. I have it set to five for tonight. Lets see what happens, it felt a little better last night. Oh, by the way the Adapt SV will not support the H4i. I checked on Resmeds web site.
