Encore Viewer & Windows 7 64 bit?
Encore Viewer & Windows 7 64 bit?
I recently upgraded to a new computer running Windows 7, 64 bit. I installed Encore Viewer software and it worked. Now, when I go in to open the software I get an error message and the program will not open! Any one able to use Encore Viewer with Windows 7 64 bit?
Appreciate any help.
Thanks

You need to installwindows virtual pc this alows you to install and run programs under win 7 as if it were xp
download and install windows xp virtual and install it then download and install windows virtual machine. That's the only way to get it to run even on a brand new clean install on a new hard drive.

Re: Encore Viewer & Windows 7 64 bit?
According to the Microsoft website I can't download and use the virtual PC since I have Windows 7 Home Premium. Requirements are for the "Professional" addition.aavenger wrote:You need to installwindows virtual pc this alows you to install and run programs under win 7 as if it were xp

So, guess I either have to upgrade to the "Professional" addition or find another solution. Any other suggestions?

Re: Encore Viewer & Windows 7 64 bit?
I upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium about a month ago, but it's the 32 bit version.
I have been running Encore Viewer with the 32 bit, with no problems except an initial glitch with the anti-virus software.
Do you want 64 bit or would 32 bit do? I know they both come on the same disk.

Hawthorne - Guess I'll have to think on the 32 bit vs 64 bit. There are some advantages and disadvantages to either one. Right now looks like either change to 32 bit or pay for the upgrade.

I don't know much about 64 bit and I'm not very computer literate but, I do know that I am running Encore Viewer on Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit with no problem!
Thanks- about my cats! That's Pumpkin & Pepper. I guess I don't have to tell you who is who!
Sounds like you have cats like them, in additon to the cute one in your avatar.

You could run EncorePro1.8 in Windows 7 64 bit without any virtual XP mode.

The following solution for EncorePro1.8 in Vista 64 bit works for Windows 7 64 bit as well.

Re: Encore Viewer & Windows 7 64 bit?
Yes! Yes! Yes! I just finished getting both encoreviewer and the smart card reader to working using Microsoft's Virtual PC with a virtual machine of Windows XP on my Windows 7 64 bit machine. I can even copy and paste between the XP window and the Windows 7 windows.
Go to this page for the free software: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/
After you've got it all installed (check your current OS, for you may not need step 4 - I didn't). After installing step 2 you will need to return to microsoft's page again to do step 3.
Then be sure to install and update your antivirus program on the virtual pc. You may have to phone your antivirus software provider and have them walk you through it in such a way than you are not considered to have installed the antivirus software on a second machine. Stress to them that it is all on the same physical machine. Remember that you must install it from WITHIN the virtual PC window.
Then, keeping the virtual window open allow the windows updates to download and install. For me, not all of them downloaded automatically for some reason. Just to make sure that all possible updates had been installed, I ran the "windows update" facility available in the virtual machine's version of internet explorer. That gave me a whole lot more updates. I would install a batch of updates and then do it again and get another batch, repeatedly until it told me that there were no further updates to be had. It took quite awhile. Then I ran the update again to check for other software updates. I installed the Microsoft.Net Framework software. And then I had to get several batches of updates for it.
Make sure your smart card reader is NOT plugged in to your computer. Then with the virtual widow still open, I inserted my EncoreViewer disc into the CD drive, opened it in the virtual window, and installed the EncoreViewer software. Lastly, still in the virtual window, I installed the driver software which is on another folder on the disc. For good measure, I also tried installing it on the Windows 7 OS, but I don't think it installed there.
Then I plugged in my smart card reader, opened my encoreviewer program. And it worked!
Someone else had recommended a different virtual machine software, but this one has the advantage that you can copy and paste between the two systems, and see both desktops.

Re: Encore Viewer & Windows 7 64 bit?
This will work for either 32 or 64 bit PC's and you do not need Win7 Professional or Ultimate. Also, this works even if the hardware on your Win7 PC would not have let you install XP.zebrajeb wrote:Yes, it will work with the 32 bit version but not the 64 bit unless you have Windows 7 Professional.sunrunnerdave 1 wrote:windows 7 ult 32 bit here to . no problems with the viewer software

You download VMWare Player and install windows XP inside. Here is how...

Re: Encore Viewer & Windows 7 64 bit?
I think Microsoft's free Virtual PC for 64 bit machines is probably better than using VMWare Player because the former lets you see both desktops at once, and do copy-pastes between open windows and documents in the two operating systems. This is because in Virtual PC both operating systems share the same clipboard. I was even able to copy and paste my antivirus installation software from one OS to the other that way. That made it easy to get the newly installed XP OS secured with antivirus BEFORE going online to get updates.

Does anyone have a link where we could download Encore?
Re: Encore Viewer & Windows 7 64 bit?
However, I was under the impression that you have to possess or upgrade to professional or ultimate edition Win7 to be able to run Virtual PC.DaisyDo wrote:I think Microsoft's free Virtual PC for 64 bit machines is probably better than using VMWare Player because the former lets you see both desktops at once, and do copy-pastes between open windows and documents in the two operating systems.
