OT Moving to the farm

Post by Pugsy » Thu Nov 26, 2009 10:45 pm

We are moving to a little farm house out in the country on 26 acres. I will be able to have my horses with me now instead of a 2 hour drive to see them. Lots of work has been done this past week. I painted the whole inside of the house including ceilings. Now we get to move in this weekend. It will be a while before I will have internet service unless I come over and visit my Mom.

So I will be around even less on the forum for a while. I just have too much going on to sit at the computer. We are excited. It has been since November 2002 since we lived in the country with all my critters. When spring comes I plan to have the chicken house ready.

I am doing okay as far as the cpap thing goes. Dealing with some unwanted congestion from painting and cleaning but I am managing. Good night and some mediocre nights but overall doing pretty good. Still lots of morning headaches but my neck is killing me so that is the likely suspect. While I didn't have enough energy to get the work done as quick as I had hoped. I did manage to get it done and it looks good. As soon as house is done then I get to start cleaning the land where people just left lots of unwanted junk and trash.

I am 57 yrs old. Slow but it will get done. I don't have the energy that I wished I had but at least I have some energy to work with. Took today off to be with my Mom and family. So I won't be around much for a while. I will stop by everynow and then to check for Private messages. Good luck everyone.

Congratulations, Pugsy! My daughter and son-in-law not too long ago finally bought some acreage and will be moving their horses there as soon as water, barn and fencing are up and running. Don't overdo. Enjoy!!!

Good luck on your move, Pugsy. You will find, I think that being around your animals on a regular basis will actually improve your health. It has certainly helped me. In addition to helping your immune system perform at its best (we were meant to be around animals, and the challenges that being around animals bring to our immune system are generally healthy challenges), the psychospiritual value of being around animals cannot be estimated by science. And to be truly be healthy, your whole being needs to be healthy.

We will be waiting to hear about your new experiences in the 'real world'!

Pugsy, enjoy living your heart's desire. I look forward to hearing you've completed all the major projects and are "living the life" there with your animals. Take care.

Pugsy, enjoy the farm house, horses and critters. There's something very satisfying about working real hard on a farm, and feeling exhausted... But its a good type of exhaustion (versus the headaches one can get from working behind a terminal screen all day). Best of luck, and stop by now and then.

I will miss you on here so much! You helped me so much in my first few weeks!

I am so happy for you, just don't overdo it! The work isn't going anywhere.

I have lived in the country all my life. Since you haven't been for a while, don't forget to pack/purchase the following essential items: gas generator, camping shower, 4wd vehicle, 10 gauge shotgun!

It has been nearly 8 years since I lived in the country and it will be good to be back to the simple quiet life. I have the 4WD truck and the shotgun, along with my little Lady's Smith and Wesson 9mm. Gas generator is on the want list but will just have to wait a little while. My sister has one that I can use unless she has power outage also. Ice storms and tornadoes are power hazards where we live. I will still be very close to my Mom's house in town only about 15 minutes away.

Hoping to spend the first night there tomorrow night. As soon as some minor fence repair is done I will be able to bring my horses home. A friend has been keeping them for me.

I will still stop by the forum every few days. My Mother has wireless internet at her house so I can still get online just not as often and not for prolonged all day stuff So I will be around and as soon as I decide on what access I want to get, then I will get internet at the farm.

I have painted each room except the laundry room (filled with boxes right now) from ceiling to floor. Now we are just unpacking and putting things in some sort of order. Tiny little farmhouse and I am typical woman with more "stuff" than I really need. Once the house is in order we will start on the junk in the outbuildings left from prior occupants. Lots of work but is so worth it. We have 8 black walnut trees in the back yard. Haven't counted how many in the "woods". Looks to be like a 10-15 acre pasture for the horses. Once the "woods" are cleaned up I can turn the horses into that area also. There is quite a bit of grass in there too. Chickens for eggs will be bought come spring. I think we have regular deer as I saw lots of deer poop.

I'll be around. Just wanted to alert my friends in case someone sent me a private message and I didn't respond promptly. I just won't tackle any lengthy questions and answers for a while till I have more time to devote to things.

Here I am on my Paso Fino named Carino del Dios. He is such a handsome guy. I have his brother also. He is a gray buckskin. No pics of him handy.

Hey Pugsy!.......You lucky gal.

In honor of your moving to the country, let's all sing along to the theme of Green Acres.

http://www.maggiore.net/Greenacres/gatheme.asp

Green acres is the place to be
Farm living is the life for me
Land spreading out,
so far and wide
Keep Manhattan,
just give me that countryside.

New York
is where I'd rather stay
I get allergic smelling hay
I just adore a penthouse view
Darling, I love you,
but give me Park Avenue.

The Chores

The Stores

Fresh air

Times Square

You are my wife. Goodbye city life.

Green Acres, we are there!

Best wishes,

I agree with all the others-How very wonderful.

I too live on a small acreage and until 3 yrs ago had my horses and some of my friends horses here. I was very fortunate to be able to do this for 40 plus years before aches, pains and this and that caught up with me (Old Age).

You mentioned black walnut trees. I am sure that you are aware that they can poison horses. Check with you local county extension office.

Happy Holidays to you and all the great folks on the forumn. You have been a great deal of help to me.

Wonderful! I'm hapy for you! Nice that you're able to do all that work...the body still works albeit a bit less energetic and less strong but nonetheless works...some of us never find that out. Fresh eggs...used to buy them all the time. Handsome Paso, Pugsy! My best to you on this new adventure!
