cpap.com and ResMeds international shipping policy

Post by Pendragon » Thu Jul 16, 2009 9:48 pm

Hi all, I'm new to the cpap community and still getting my feet wet and gathering as much info as I can.
I would like to know if anyone knows the reason for Resmed to stop cpap.com from shipping Resmed supplies to Canada / internationally?
This (I believe) recent decision has made it harder (not impossible) for me to obtain all the equipment I need at a decent price.
While I have to pay out of pocket for all my gear, it is still a third of the price that I would pay in Canada, even with the exchange rate. ResMed is the only cpap I have used as of yet, but why change what's working for me.
If anyone can shed any light on this subject, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Resmed did this before too back in 2006. See Wulfman's post for links to past threads.

Wow, thanks for the reply. So this is a roller coaster ride where ResMed's concerned? I just bought my first R/M mask without any problems from cpap.com a couple of weeks ago, without my script, shipped direct to Canada, and now it all changes.
Well at least I have a sister in NY, so it's all good, just an extra step that I wasn't counting on.

Kudos to the admins / users etc of this site, I have found it a valuable source of info for the last couple of months, and sure I will continue to do so.
Thanks.

I have Remed but I have to say that after the software policy and the threats they have made to DME's and places like Cpap.com I will not have another one. Telling DME's not to sell you software even if you have a doctors prescription for it like the did to me DME here in Chicago and telling people company's to stop selling it to anyone other than a doctor is really disturbing. I have a perscription for the software and allowed to change my settings and my DME said Resmed would pull their ability to sell Resmed equipment if the gave software to anyone other than a doctor.

My DME is now suggesting to customers that they should go with over vendors when they ask for Resmed. When I recently had to replace a Autoset II after 3 days of use because it quit working in the middle of the night they tried to talk me into several other machines just to get me off of Resmed products. I'm begining to regreat not changing then to another brand.

There has to be some reason Remed is giving the impression of running in a desperate panic to pile restrictions on the sale of their software and equipment.

I wonder if anyone is investigating why Resmed seems to be giving the impression they are in panic mode, road blocking, and impeding customers from seeing their treatment data. Is their some flaw in the data we are not aware of? What other reasons would Remed want to prevent customers from seeing the data they need for proper treatment?

Just my thoughts.

Things that make you go Hmmmmmmmmmm.
Definitely makes you wonder when you put it like that. Food for thought for sure. I am still making a decision on machine etc, as mine is just a rental unit until I get my own.
I have noticed Resmed pulling products (software) from their package deals, and places slashing prices etc, makes you wonder if they're in trouble or something.

OT:
Excuse my ignorance (Newbie), but what are DME and PCP? The DME doesn't sound like fun to deal with, I don't have to deal with anyone but my Dr as it's all out of pocket for me anyway.

Going to have to do more research now and see what comparable machines, s/w etc are out there.
Thanks for your input Markchi

DME -> Durable Medical Equipment... basically it's the place that you get your CPAP equipment from
PCP -> Primary care physician... your doctor is your PCP
