Why need Rx for cpapauction.com ?

Post by DcKalop » Thu Jul 02, 2009 8:25 pm

I've read on another thread that cpapauction.com required prescription for buying machine?
Yet, I don't see this in any of the auction ads?
Is it just for new machines?
If I wanted to buy a used machine from a private individual, why would I need a prescription?

Thanks

I'm not sure how cpapauction.com works, but the FDA says that xPAP machines can not be sold to individuals without prescriptions.

eBay will not accept listings for CPAP equipment. Craigs List casts a blind eye on the issue.

But cpapauction.com, which is dedicated to xPAP equipment follows the FDA rules and requires a prescription.

I guess Johnny Goodman wants to stay out of jail.

To comply with Federal Law. If you have a machine, read the box.

Yea, I have one I bought on craigslist. I thought the requirements where only for new machines. It's ridiculous the government has to stick their noses into everything we do. I'm trying to upgrade to an APAP machine and can't find one on craigslist. Private sell from one individual to another should be allowed.

What does your prescription say on it? Can you get one for an APAP?

If you have a script for a cpap you can purchase an apap from cpapauction.com. All you have to do is fax them a copy of your script.

A cpap script will allow you to purchase either a straight cpap or an apap. An apap script will only allow you to purchase an apap.

I got my Respironics M series Auto CPAP with CFlex from a private individual that I found on craigslist.
Was only an hour drive to where he lived. Brand new machine. Zero hours on blower.
They can be found but more luck than anything. I haven't seen another one like it within 200 miles of where I live since then.

Yea, I guess I'll just keep looking. I hadn't been able to find one on craigslist that's APAP.

I thought maybe cpapauction.com would work ... but nope, big brother has to protect me since I'm too stupid to protect myself.

cpapauction is overseen by cpap.com ppl so they get to set the rules

ebay shut down cpap sale because of the FDA getting on their case I understand

again check out craigslist - they do get apap's -

there is another place called secondwindcpap but I have no idea what they want as far as a script nor do I know how reliable and above board they are

I also got my APAP on CraigsList. I live in Arizona, and my seller lived in Seattle. (I didn't care where the machine was coming from, as long as it was what I wanted. I wasn't finding anything locally, so I searched other CL cities.) I paid a little extra for shipping, but the price was right for the machine (with 11 hours on it), so that was fine. Just use common sense if you're buying from someone on CL.

Private message me your general locale when you have time. I am watching craigslist every couple of days or so for APAP for my sister. I could keep an eye out for your locale as well and give you a heads up if I see something new pops up in your general area. Otherwise if you want to do like Bleeping Beauty did, there is a wider area that might have one that suits your needs.

The APAP's are scarce unless they are old, old units. I just got lucky with mine. Other than it being CFlex (thought I wanted AFlex) it was exactly what I had decided I wanted. Come to find out, I don't need or use the CFlex, so worked out great.

I guess that's what I'll do, start looking nationally on craigslist instead of just locally.

How do you pay them on craiglist when they're out of your area? How are you sure they'll ship it?

Also, what's the difference between Cflex and Aflex ? (My unit has cflex now and I like it).

Thanks

I live in Fl I got my Remstar plus with less than 100 hours for $85.00 on Craigslist in my area there is about a dozen of them for sale. But unfortunately a lot of people think they can sell a used cpap for $300,$400,$500 which is insane.

Try this link, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
As always it is "Buyer Beware". Use common sense when trying to get a stranger to mail you something. If you can't get a street address and phone number, I would prob avoid that seller. Think what is your recourse if you loose your money? Unfortunately, scams abound on CL. On the east coast we also had the "CL Killer".
