New F&P FF and Nasal

Post by Mike@TibroMedical » Sat Apr 25, 2009 5:03 am

So I had the guy from F&P show up yesterday pitching their new mask's and I've never been a huge fan of F&P except maybe the 431FF. Mainly I can't stand there machine's (junk)

He brought in the Forma FF and the Zest Nasal I was wondering if anyone has tried either of them out yet? If so what did you think?

The zest I wasn't hugely impressed with it's Identical to a 406, the only hugh difference is how the cushion seat's to the frame...

Now the Forma FF is the one I was hoping to get some feed back on, the constant issue with the 431 is most pt's get that nasty sore on the bridge of the nose cause they wear it to low on there face, and the forehead support was for looks not function. He hands me the forma and it's as if F&P took the worst parts of the 431 & 432 and focused on improving those area's and function and applied it to the forma. Which give's me hope that they may have designed them selves a good mask. I've had so many flops with there mask that I didn't want to chance ordering them and having them sit in the shipping room.

That's when it hit me!!!! My good friends on cpaptalk.com might have test drove this puppy already So here I am posting up again. If anyone has tried the forma or knows someone that has Id love to hear what you thought of it.

Mike, I happened to be visiting my new DME to try a new mask the very morning she received her first Forma. I tried it and others and liked it best by far. Since I have a medium Quattro I took home a medium Forma only to discover it was too small. The medium was in constant battle between my chin and bridge and my bridge got sore very quickly. I tried and love the large Forma, so be aware the Medium may run a bit small to other masks. The Forma shell accepts both medium and large cushions and I was told they ship with both sizes, but maybe Johnny can confirm.

The large feels like climbing into an old Lincoln Towncar, you just sigh and feel at home. It fits under the chin and the top rests on the bridge of the nose. The forehead support is not adjustable but the bridge seal is very soft and it works for me. I've had it a month now and the headgear has stretched to what seems to be a permanent level and is relatively comfortable.

The cushion seals very well, better than initially, and seal leaks only happen a couple times a week at 3AM or so because of my very oily skin. I keep a damp washrag in my bathroom and just wipe the mask and my face and it's good. Because of my oily skin, I wash the mask well daily with liquid dish detergent (twice to make sure no oil remains). I also wash my face with detergent just before bed.

I did discover one thing that all patients should know about the Forma and that is how to seat the bridge seal point when re-installing the cushion. There is a straight lip in the shell and the seal goes on the lower side but may be difficult to fully seat. I reach over the cushion and pinch the seal between finger and thumb and push it down until fully seated. You can see through the shell so look around it to see that the cushion and foam insert are properly installed.

I have 2 years with the Quattro FFM and it is OK, but I've had to make it very tight so as not to leak. I have supplies for it so was just looking to for something more comfortable. The Forma is everything I hoped for and recommend it. BTW, I have no beard nor mustache so cannot vouch for that application.

It's going to be okay in the end; if it's not okay, it's not the end.
