POLL: How many hours actual sleep time a night do you get?

Post by jnk » Mon Mar 30, 2009 3:10 pm

We are all trying to get the best sleep we can. But how much sleep are we getting? Time spent going to sleep or lying awake during the night doesn't count. This poll is about actual sleep time at night, not including daytime naps.

I put 6 1/2, but that's "with an explanation" because I choose to go to sleep late, then my cats wake me early to eat (so I do nap later on). It probably would be closer to 7 hours I think if I also remembered to take a Tums before bed sometimes!

I usually do nap for an hour and a half during the day, but that is just me. However, I do recall reading somewhere that people who nap are smarter than those who do not...

I'm not anti-nap. I just wanted to arbitrarily standardize the poll.

Sleep time off the mask counts. It is not recommended, but it counts in this poll.

Keep at it. You'll get there. Soon you won't even want to sleep without the mask because you will be able to tell the difference in sleep quality immediately once you become an experienced sleep connoisseur!

6.5 hours is probably the average for me during the week....But, if you don't count the extra bit form whacking snooze excessively...it might inch to only being 6 hours a night.

I'll sleep in on weekends, when I can...just because I can....

I've thought about taking vacation so that I can sleep in now and then during the week....but usually on days that I could do that, are they busy times at work....

The Dreamer.

My math average since beginning July 18 is around 6.5 hours a night.

I have regular issues during the month of 3 or 4 hours sleep for the night.... and then making up with a long and needed sleep on a later night of 9 or more hours.

Overall, I am trending more and more towards 6 to 8 hours more nights than not....

I awake less often in the night than I used to. When I am finally tired enough (but not beyond tired) I fall asleep fairly quiclly. So, use time is mostly all actual asleep time.

I have insomnia issues I am still working on...slowly mastering....

Yeah- i get a good eight hours --if I don't do that I feel off the rest of the day. I wish I COULD NAP but since I still work at a full time job, I think my company would frown on my napping for an hour and a half each day--LOL!

I get about 9 hours a night give or take a few now and then.
I used to sleep about 4-6 hours then got my "little buddy".....Doc tells my wife that I'm sleeping off my sleep debt and may be sleeping like this the rest of my days.....
If I was working I'd probably sleep a bit less, but......I was laid off 5 days before I started my treatment.......

cheers

I've got a friend of mine that has a cpap machine in his bedroom sitting next to his bed, plugged into the wall and everything. He hasn't worn his mask since the 2nd week he got the machine. He'd like me to answer "8 hours" for him...

Following this poll with great interest, but not able to vote.

Unfortunately my length of sleep fluctuates based on various aches and pains, not to mention circadian rhythm issues that have plagued almost my entire family. Then , when my body isn't in the midst of any of that, it wants to pay down sleep debt to the tune of nine or more hours. Thank goodness my SDB seems well addressed!
