Encore Pro vs. Encore Viewer Software

Post by J-Mac » Fri Jan 23, 2009 1:52 am

Hello all.

I am currently using a Respironics M Series A-Flex Auto that I purchased last May at cpap.com. I was previously using a regular old BIG Respironics RemStar Auto along with Encore Pro. I understand that the M Series Auto will not work with Encore Pro, and also that neither application is supported for patients by Respironics (Lousy as that may be!) I would much prefer to continue using Encore Pro as I am very familiar with it, I know how to work with SQL databases and can configure my data in ways that I prefer. But I also prefer using the M Series machine, so I am basically stuck with Encore Viewer or nothing. (Unless someone here knows otherwise).

Before I part with my money, though, I am wondering if any of the great minds here can list the differences between the two software packages. Other than the obvious ones, of course, like the fact that the Viewer software does not use an SQL database and does not allow exports in other formats. Or at least so I have heard.

Are there other significant differences that I will choke on? I am guessing that less data is provided but that may just be negative thinking on my part. Does the smart card for M Series and Encore Viewer hold many weeks of data like Pro? Or does it reset more often? Can I save the data before it does reset? Does it give decent leak rate data? Etc., etc.

Also, though I usually purchase all of my CPAP needs at cpap.com, I have found that for some reason the Encore Viewer software and card reader are much higher there. Like 40% to 50% higher - which is way too much for me to ignore, though I usually don’t mind paying a reasonable premium to shop there. Anyone know the reason for that? Just curious since their prices are usually very competitive and I am somewhat surprised by this.

I appreciate any information that anyone can provide! Thanks.

Jim

I think that lots of people here are using Encore Pro software with M-Series machines and everything works fine. You should be able to use it.

That's what I have observed from posts here.

I use Encore Viewer with my M-Series. The data from both softwares is exactly the same. You can just do more with the data using Encore Pro. I think the point you made about the database is the only difference.

Others will come along and let you know for sure but, I think that you can use Encore Pro with M-Series machines.

cpap.com price matches. Find your best price and then give cpap.com a call.

If you can use Encore Pro... depends on what version of Encore Pro that you have... and your machine

1.6 was when the M series started being used... I think. But the AFLEX is new, so you might not be able to get the right version of Encore Pro to be able to use it, might have to go to Encore Viewer.

For the M Series Auto w/A-Flex, a person would need the 1.8 version of Encore Pro.
If you already have a card reader and are already familiar with Encore Pro, it shouldn't be too hard to "find".

Den
(5) REMstar Autos w/C-Flex & (6) REMstar Pro 2 CPAPs w/C-Flex - Pressure Setting = 14 cm.
"Passover" Humidification - ResMed Ultra Mirage FF - Encore Pro w/Card Reader & MyEncore software - Chiroflow pillow

I have an M Series Auto, and I'm using Encore Pro ver. 1.8.6 (or something like that). Works fine.

I've been told by folks who've used both that Encore Viewer is more user friendly and provides the same data. However, It WILL NOT WORK with Encore Analyzer and the other software developed by forum members to support Encore Pro.

It's your call. Either one will work with your machine.

Cheers,
B.

For most normal people, Encore Viewer is perfectly fine. Most normal people don't need a database and other add-on programs.

Cflame - how do you get the "Encore Pro Data Management Software" line to show up in your signature line? I can't find it in the options menu!!!!

Thanks!

@All:

Wow! Now I know that in the past, I believe when the M Series was first introduced, it was posted by many that Encore Pro did not work at all with it. Anyway the version I have was purchased art cpap.com with my first RemStar Auto back in 2003, so it is definitely outdated. Works great on XP Pro with the RemStar Auto but I think it is V. 1.3x. I searched the web just now and I don’t see anywhere that has 1.8i - except for some torrent sites and I don’t do those. Afraid I may have to get something else unfortunately. I need to get a new card reader anyway - mine is the old serial connector type and the serial connection on my computer won't work if I am using USB ports for the mouse.

@"Guest": I really love it when someone decides to educate me about what "normal" people need. Now I just need someone to educate me as to what the heck a normal person is!

@bdp522: I didn't know that cpap.com price matches. I'll give them a call and see what they say. Thanks!

Jim

Encore Viewer does not allow me to same my data to my own machine. This is unacceptable -- and a violation of my rights, since it denies me a copy of my own medical records.
