Aura/Twilight Mask vs CL2
Aura/Twilight Mask vs CL2
Hi, I will appreciate it if anyone has any input on the following.
I am currently using Comfort lite 2 nasal pillows mask which sometimes get pushed off center (with both the original headgear and also with the pantyhose headgear) causing it to leak while I am asleep. I am a side sleeper. In your opinion would the nose piece on the Aura/Twilight nasal mask be less, or more, likely to give this problem? From the picture is looks possibly wider, but it's hard to tell.
My other, and larger, concern is the strap position as I cannot tolerate anything that tucks behind my ears. I can pull the straps on the CL2 up a little to keep them clear of my ears. It is possible that I would replace the Aura headgear with the "lab rat" headgear ideas, which may help with the ear problem. thank you.

Re: Aura/Twilight Mask vs CL2
I had massive problems with the CL2. It was an improvement over the OptiLife I started with, but it was a constant struggle all night long.
I prefer the Headrest/Aura/Twilight to the CL2. It gets even better when you "decapitate it" and remove it's stupid "headrest" portion and just strap it to your head.
I know folks on this forum who sleep on their faces who swear by this mask. I can tell you it stood up well to my roly poly side flopping.
That said, I just don't like nasal pillows masks much. They rub my nares raw, and hurt my upper lip. I found the Nasal Aire II and am MUCH HAPPIER NOW. It's not for everyone, but those that do like it are real fans. It's counterintuitive that something poking up your nose could be more comfortable, but for me, it really is more comfortable and more stable than any other mask I've tried.
I run a free test drive for it, if you might want to try before you buy. There are also some other free test drives out there, as well as a mask swap thread:

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula.

Are you sure you're talking about the Headrest? I thought the Headrest went on like a baseball cap?Ms Piggy wrote: My other, and larger, concern is the strap position as I cannot tolerate anything that tucks behind my ears. I can pull the straps on the CL2 up a little to keep them clear of my ears.
Re: Aura/Twilight Mask vs CL2
I used the CL-2 for about 3-months....and had the same problems with it that you are experiencing.
For the last year and a half, I've been using the Aura....and I can't find a better mask.
I have added a nice pad for the underside of the head-piece, a velcro stabilizer for the nose-piece, and a piece of cotton string (inside the nose-piece) to prevent rainout. The string-trick works perfectly...and I have had not one drop of condensation up my nose for almost 3-months.
I use a 1/2" squirt of Lansenoh lanolin on my nares every night for comfort and sealing. I prevent mouth leaks by using 2" Blue Delicate Release 3M Masking Tape...and overlay that with a band of panty-hose tights (to prevent blow-outs).
My system is very comfortable in all sleeping positions. My hose is insulated with a flannel cover...and it swings from a moving arm above my head.
Highly recommended.

Re: Aura/Twilight Mask vs CL2
I use both of these masks. Mostly the CL2. The CL2 is quieter to me,and contacts less of my face. Both big pluses for me. The Headrest is a bit noisier, but the exhaust blows up instead of out. It contacts more of my face which does make it more stable but means I need to cover the nose piece with fleece(making it hotter). I find little difference between the headgear on these masks as far as where the straps lay. Both go on and off easily and seem to stay put for me. I do use padacheeks on the head piece of the CL2, don't seem to need one on the headrest.
Hope this helped some,
Brenda

Re: Aura/Twilight Mask vs CL2
That is promising news about the Aura fitting well.
As for the ComfortLite II (did someone already mention this?)the PapCap is
an absolute wonder with the CL mask: no slippage of the back strap. I do
add the requisite cutoff tights to hold the down tube and simply wind it to
the other stuff on the PapCap. (Okay, my masks seem to lull me into
complacency for one night, and then the following night produces
a McPain flip flop (oops, my bad) and slips off and drips water into my nose,
kills the cat...you know.

Re: Aura/Twilight Mask vs CL2
Gerald, what is the string trick to prevent rainout? I hadn't heard that one before.
Thanks!

Re: Aura/Twilight Mask vs CL2
Actually, Brenda's link is for a similar idea on the Swift mask.
Following is a link for the "String Trick" I did with the Aura Headrest.

My experiment is a complete success......I have no more water up my nose.

Re: Aura/Twilight Mask vs CL2
Brenda.......
Whether its for the Swift....or the Aura....or the CL-2....the principle is the same: Put some sort of cotton wick inside the nose-piece that'll absorb the one or two big drops that form from exhaled breath condensation.
Putting a wick (cotton string) inside the Aura is a little more difficult....because of the narrow passageways of the nose-piece.....and that's why Peggy needed to see my pictures. Showing pictures for the Swift is good.......just a different perspective of the same principle. More pictures are better than fewer.....creativity is encouraged.
The main thing is to get those one or two *%$#*@#$* drops before they get us.
