Sneezing in your nasal mask when cpap is on!!!

Hello People,

I wonder if sneezing down your cpap hose whist machine operating does the cpap any good, I had a massive sneeze whist wearing my nasal mask and I blew all my mucus down the hose as that the machine coped a blast as well as mucus!!!!! It was a very unpleasent way to start a day, plus cleaning up the mess in the mask and hose with it. I hope I didn't bugger up the machine too much whist it was coping a huge blast air from my sneezing!!!

allergies, take an antihistamine like Claritin or Zyrtec

I have to apologize,,,

but thanks for this chuckle as I visualize a sneeze, mask extending out from face then slamming back down,, and CPAP screaming "what the heck was that?"

On a serious note,, I don't have a good answer for you.

I very much doubt if it does the machine any harm, other than the big discomfort you experienced. You see these machines are not as emotional as we are Seriously, if the hose was not dirtied towards the machine end, then almost nothing went inside the machine. But you can try to clean the outlet with some cloth and check.

How did that look on your report?

I sneezed one time with mask on, mouth taped and chin strapped. I thought my head was going to explode. I couldn't wait to see how it showed up on my Encore report, and, of course, that was the first of a two night vacation that my "M" took.

I doubt if an elephant could sneeze hard enough to go through the mask, around the elbow fitting, and down six feet of hose with air coming the other direction under pressure and get into the works of the machine.

Human beans prolly can't get past the hose swivel fitting.

For your own piece of mind you could wash the mask and hose ... I wash the hose every couple of months whether it needs it or not. The mask get a regular wash out to remove the drool etc. etc.

Arizona-Willie, my thoughts in the earlier post was similar. But remember at low pressure, my cflex goes down to almost no pressure on an out breath, so there is very little back pressure against that sneeze storm

THAT SOUNDS ABSOLUTELY GROSS!!!! LOL!

I feel sorry for you though. Having to clean it all up. Yechhhhh!

But thanks for the visual. And the warning if I ever feel the big sneeze coming on I am gonna try to whip that mask off ASAP.
