restless cat syndrome
restless cat syndrome
Well, here I am, up in the middle of the night again. But this time, it is not OSA or insomnia or any such thing. Its my darn CATS! They decided to have a fight outside my bedroom window.
I wonder if insurance will cover treatment for this?

My cats understand my condition very well. They watch me getting ready for bed. They look sympathetic while I shave my top lip. They give me encouraging looks when I fill up the humidifier. They sit and wait while I strap into the mask and get it right. They look interested while I put on the chin strap and fiddle with everything. They sit and ooze comfort while I struggle to sleep. Then at the EXACT moment I fall asleep they want to go outside...
They seem able to detect when my breathing hits sleep mode.
Still would rather live with a cat than most people...lol.

It's not that I don't like cats..... I just can't eat a whole one.
Without barbecue sauce.

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula.

Okay, been working on this. Lets see if anyone can help me fill in some of the important data on this very serious syndrome:
Restless cat syndrome
Symptoms –
1 Patient appears groggy and irritated throughout the day, particularly first thing in the morning. They are known to randomly swear out loud followed by the word “cat”. Often the whole family will show signs of disrupted sleep but the main cat care person will have the most dramatic symptoms.
2 Patients may tell of staying up late at night opening doors and calling “kitty, kitty – get in here now or I won’t let you in later” or other such phrases.
3 Patients might complain of being afraid to sleep for fear of waking repeatedly – this is particularly true for those whose cats sleep in their rooms and/or beds.
4 Waking repeatedly around 3 am on most nights usually due to cat noises complaining to either be let out or in, or simply cats playing on patients face.
Diagnosis
1. Please make sure the patient has a cat before giving this diagnosis. RCS is often confused with Restless Dog Syndrome and treatment varies. (treatment for RDS is usually much easier and takes less time than RCS treatment)

If my cats could talk they'd tell some tales! For the most part they do well at knowing to not bother me when sleeping. Only time they wake me up is if they're terrorizing small critters that dare enter their domain (bats, mice, and bionic giant bugs). Funny, cause as soon as I'm laying there awake no matter what time, they're up there ready to be petted. These are brave cats. For 8 years every night they have optimistically jumped up on the lower corner of my bed. Surely they knew it was just a matter of hours till they literally got kicked off the bed. Can't count the times I've awakened feeling my foot thunk against a cat and it goes airborn. My RLS and PLMD can be brutal, and if someone called 241-CATS on me I'd be on the news for animal abuse. Going to bed soon and they'll be right there again waiting for me to abuse them. Hey, I said they were brave, not smart.

Bearded one - my son's cat (we have two, one sleeps in my room, one in his room - he has a dog in there too, I get two dogs and a hubby), also likes toes and moving feet. When my son rolls over at night she will pounce his feet. She has gotten a little better as she has gotten older but still likes to play at 3 am and if he won't play too, she sits on his chest and meows loudly.
Oh Kathy... airborne kitties?
PRICELESS!!!!!
I am highly claustrophobic. We got a cat when I was in high school (we had been confirmed dog lovers up to that point) and my parents had the sense to shut their bedroom door so he couldn't visit them in the night.
Me he came to visit. He'd get up on my pillow and attempt to smother me. I assume because I snored.
In my half-sleep, I'd reach up, grab him around the ribs, and HURL HIM INTO THE BRICK WALL BESIDE MY BED!!!!
Lucky for him he bounced well.
He did have some neurological issues... Which may or may not have been kitty mental illness... It's so hard to tell when a cat is being a CAT, and being MENTALLY ILL. Yeah, it was probably all my fault for slamming him into the wall every night... I know, I know... I'M GOING TO HELL!
LOL,
