lube on a ffm

Post by Moby » Wed Jun 18, 2008 8:14 pm

Hi everyone,

I have found it much easier fitting and adjusting my F&P 432 when I smear KY on my face beforehand. Not too much, not too little...

Yeah, I know it sounds weird.

am becoming a devotee of the ffm. No taping or gluing of lips, just slap the mask on and go to sleep.

LOL!

How FUNNY! But, whatever works...

I am glad to hear you are getting a great seal with no leaks, way to go!

I am of the opinion you would get essentially the same good effect by putting a small bead of the jelly all around your mask before applying the mask. That way it will go to exactly where needed most. I use the jelly with nasal pillows and they provide much better seal now. I apply them only on the outer edge of the pillow which would come in contact against the nose edge, it does practically no good for me if apply the jelly to the portion of the cushion that goes inside the opening. Just a thought.

Thanks for the thought FeelingBetter.

I tried putting it directly on the silicone part of the mask, but it didn't work so well. The first time I didn't get enough gel on, and the second time too much. The mask is big and an irregular shape, and the gel worked inside the mask and round the foam insert, which is not good for the insert.

It is much quicker and easier for me to just slap it on my face and rub the excess off my hands on my pjs (I was a sexy chick once upon a time honest ) then I can just slap my mask on in the dark. Also putting the gel on the mask I get it all over my hair as I slip it on - I do draw the line as some things, though one wonders for how much longer!!!

Another good thing about the gelled face is that the mask glides over it when I move around in bed, so it stays in contact with the skin rather than balking like a horse at a fence when it hits a wrinkle and pushing one end of it up off the face.

Thanks Moby.

I've been having trouble with sweating my mask off so any suggestion is worth listening to. Glad this worked for your situation, hope it helps mine.

BTW - we are all sexy in the dark.

Moby, have you done this long enough to know if your skin is going to balk at it, i.e. break out or form a rash? If not, then it's definitely something I'm willing to try, too.

Thank you for this great tip. I used my Astroglide and woke up without any deep dents in my face.

Usually it takes a couple of hours for the marks to disappear.

The mask just slid over my face and I had the best AI ever and a very low leak rate.

I just knew that Astroglide had more than one use!

Hi Peggy,

So far so good.

no allergic reaction or spots so far. My pores do look bigger in the morning. I don't usually do anything for my skin, maybe i should buy something to close them up? but blackheads are a thing of the past, guess it's like that thing they do to you at the beauticians when they steam your face.

I do react to an awful lot of stuff, that is one of the reasons I don't want to use tape on my mouth. I am a nurse and have never heard of an allergy to KY though I'm sure it is possible.

I'll post if I get any adverse reactions.

Though it may be quite safe for even sensitive area skin, I wonder if there is any harm in breathing that into our lungs?

I doubt it. It's water soluble so would wash out of the body with normal secretions. The pharmacist went through a number of lubes with me looking for a low odour one, and i told her why I was using it! - did'nt want her imagination running wild lol. She didn't say anything about breathing it in. But people get idiosyncratic responses to things, so there's always a risk I guess.

It think it should be safe - my sleep doc suggested KY for nasal pillows.

Apparently it's safe enough that J&J isn't even required to create a Material Data Safety Sheet (MSDS) for the product. (Link is a PDF)

Here's a comparative product that does have a MSDS. (PDF again) Apparently it's practically non-toxic, though they suggest not getting it in your eyes. And as you suggested Moby - there's always a slight risk.
