Rooster...what features of the Hybrid make it better to you than the Liberty? I have only tried the Liberty so I have no comparison. I almost bought it, but found that it was more uncomfortable for ME to sleep on my side than with the QuattroFFM, which I have ended up with. But I like the nasal pillow interface so I might try a Hybrid. Thanks! Trice

I'm a Liberty user. It's very comfortable, easy to get in and out of, and all the benefits of a full face mask without the nose and forehead pain. Doesn't block your vision at all.

That said, I have a little trouble with leaking, especially with the nose pillows. Not too bad when I go to bed, but it gets worse through the night. If my nose was shaped a little different it might be perfect. Since I won't be able to get a replacement for a long time, I'm learning to cast silicone and make my own pillows.

Good luck with your decision!

I prefer Hybrid , as well.
Not only do you get 3 mouth cushions with it
You get 6 pillows with it
that have two hights ,each.
You can keep your chinflap, or not

and it's less expensive and more comfortable because the pillows don't have to push up against your nose.

good luck, it's a great mask

I would have to agree the universal worked better for me. You can customize it to your needs.

I have only used the Liberty. Don't have a huge problems with leaks if I keep the mask clean. My main issue with the mask is that the inward pressure on my upper lip makes my teeth hurt (kind of like when I once had braces...). Unfortunately, the mask does not sit high enough on my mouth to sit on my gums, the trials and tribulations of the position of my nose relative to my mouth (big nose, small mouth)

I have used both, and prefer the Liberty. However, the Hybrid is a good mask.

I think that the deciding factor FOR ME may be the secure and easily used headgear and no chin flap. Those of us with more receding chins do not find it to be very useful, and it is also hotter and sweatier FOR ME to have it there.

I too have problems with the nasal pillows slipping out of my nares during the night. I have solved that problem by putting a pantyhose leg (yes, PANTYhose not TIGHTS!) over the stalk of the pillows and tying it behind my head with a triple flat knot. It makes very little sense to me that this works as well as it does, but...there you have it.

Best wishes.

Karen

Well, it's here. I got fitted for a large, which seems right. I'm a little confused, though. Which Mask Type do I set to in my S8 Vantage settings? There is no choice for a Liberty.

...decided to call Resmed. Liberty users should set the Mask Type to Mirage Full on the S8 Vantage. I suspect it's the same for other S8 models.

...it's Friday morning and I've had my first night on the Liberty. It worked well, but there's some tweaking to be made. Quick look at the results show promise: Leak Rate .04L/s and AHI 2.3. But, what that tells me is the mask was too tight, which I felt this morning. The soft fleshy part between the nares - where it meets my face (is that the septum?) - feels like it's been pinched all night. I suspect it had been.

Face part felt fine, even with moustache and a light beard. I was worried that I'd get no seal because of the 'stache, but it turned out not to be a problem. My right nostril feels dry but the left feels fine. Weird. I had the H3i on 2; may have to up it a bit. Seems like the Medium sized pillows worked, but once I loosen up the mask a bit to get rid of the pinching that may have to change.

Other observations: The thing I hate about any of these masks is the headgear. It just completely messes up my 'do. Yeah, I know it sounds trivial, but I'm usually at work by 6 AM. You can draw you own guess as to when I get up in the morning. Without getting too personal it means I've learned a long time ago that I can save a bit of time by showering and whatnot just before I go to bed. Now with these headgears I wake up looking like Woody Woodpecker! It's ironic that the thing that will help me get a full night's sleep may now force me to get up that much earlier. Cheez!

BTW, all this with a titration of 16cm. So a hybrid type can work at higher pressures, as some have already said on this forum.

It's still not set to my satisfaction, but so far it beats having the bridge of my nose all sore and bruised.

Just bumping this because I just realized an edit of an older post doesn't generate a "new message" flag on this board.

I have been using the Liberty for about 4 days now. It took a couple of days to get it all right but now I really like it. My leak rates are very low as are my AHI's.

My only complaint is it makes the part of my nose right above my lip a little sore.

Otherwise, I love this mask!

Well, the second night was not as good as the first. I must have woken up 20 times or more to try and reseat the right nasal pillow. The flange felt as though it was set properly at the base of my nose but it just kept leaking. Morning numbers were horrible. The DME recommended I start with the medium size pillows. I'm going to try the large ones tonight.

I do not like the headgear. The part that's supposed to sit on the cap of my head keeps bunching up.

This bears repeating: if you will loosen the straps a bit--then possibly this fix will help. Without it, I have ANY size of the nasal pillows slip in the middle of the night.

Maybe you haven't tried it because you do not understand the fix:
___________________________________________________________________

Another explanation: IF the nasal pillows insert were considered to be like a pair of mushrooms, then put the middle of the pantyhose leg (gathered into a thin strip) over the stems of the mushrooms.
____________________________________________________________________

So, if the headgear is too large at one spot (where there is no adjustment), then in the spirit of the Rested Gal--Laura's Lab Ratting awards...

What could you do to fix that problem? I cannot wait to see what you invent.

Best wishes,

Karen,
Who is grateful to have the Liberty,
compared to the 12 or so other masks she tried--
all of which are someone's favorite!

P.S. If you try it, and this pantyhose leg doesn't work for you, please post it here and I will stop suggesting this...PROMISE!
