Poll on prescribed pressures

Post by Joffive » Mon Feb 11, 2008 8:00 pm

How many of you are using a pressure that is significantly different from your prescribed pressure?
Mine's about 2cm higher...

Mine was completely off...

BiPAP prescribed: 7-17
After having my BiPAP in auto titration: 16-22

I actually tried 7-17 and got a nice 39 AHI!!

Then again my sleep study was awful, I only slept 2h30. But all I wanted was the prescription.

Started therapy May 14, 2005.
I was titrated at 16 cm with a few residual events. Doctor prescribed 18 cm.
With my trusty REMstar Pro 2 and Encore Pro, I reset my machine to 10 cm after trying 18 for less than an hour.
After I got past the first month and a half during which I had to go off the machine for 10 days with a horrible cough/cold after I had started getting in the swing of things in the first two weeks, I resumed therapy and my AHI went down to and has averaged equal to or less than 1.0 every month since.
About 10 months to a year later, I experimented with 11 and 12 and finally settled on 12. I got essentially the same AHI numbers with all three, but with 12, my snoring became practically non-existent.

At my first appontment with my sleep doctor after starting therapy, I took my Encore Pro printouts for him to see and I had no hesitation telling him that I had changed my pressure. He didn't want to believe that I could be doing that well on almost half the pressure he'd prescribed and didn't seem to want to believe the reports from the software. That was our LAST meeting.

I was diagnosed in 2003 for a 14cm H20 CPAP flow rate, and that is still my best rate (as cross checked occasionally via APAP) over 4 years later.

Cheers,

Bill

I was set at 7, as per my sleep study. I now use 9.5 with near perfect results.

My perscription was 6 and I am now at 11 per my auto. 6 was a joke, I couldn't even breathe!

I was titrated at 9, got given an auto set at 4-20, have tried all combinations between 8 and 13 on auto, and am currently running on 10 in CPAP mode, and had my first AHI below 10 on that setting.

Admittedly the titration was at sea level, and I live just over 1100m above that, but in a couple of days I'll try 11 and see how it goes. It's very much a work in progress....

I was titrated twice at 11 cm. I am running auto at 11-20, average pressure usably around 14 and change.

11 did not work for me.

I'm still a "work in progress" altho getting some darn good data at 8 cms pressure w/1 cm EPR. Sleep still fragmented tho, but then have COPD as one underlying condition and I strongly suspect another or others.

My new APAP indicates an average of 9.6.

I was prescribed at 11, but insisted on an APAP and I get the lowest
numbers around 8 to 8.5.
I went to CPAP mode at eleven, and the aerophagia was horrible.

I'll stick with APAP thanks.

I was titrated at 9 cm. My APAP is set to 8 - 12; I've averaged 8.3 over the last 10 months (started 11 months ago). AHI averages under 2 so can't complain. Really happy with the APAP, rarely reach 11 almost never 12 cm.

Sleep Well!
