Nasal Aire II sounds like I'm sucking water
Nasal Aire II sounds like I'm sucking water
Basically when I am using my treatment it sounds like my (new) Nasal Aire II is sucking water. My old kit did not sound like this. It does it with MP, L, and XL sizes. There is no water in the tube but it sounds like the water is sucking near my nostril (I can switch the nasal tube part around and it is the same nostril). I don't know what to do, hope someone has some tips!

I have had it. It is amasing how little moisture in the nostral will make it gurgle. When it does this I usually blow my nose well and take a tissue and put it on the end of a Q-Tip and dry out the nare. Usually makes the seal better also. After putting it back on I push on the side of the nose that is not gurgleing and take a couple of deep breaths and it goes away. Generally only happens when I first mask up to go to bed.

The water in the humidifier is never above the max level. I will start putting less in. Problem is.. the water disappears by the morning.
Also, there is moisture in my nose since I put Ayr Gel in so I don't dry out. I will try to extra-clean my nose tonight before I use the NAII.

And even be careful when washing your face and splashing to rinse....just could have a little extra moisture in the nares if you insert the prongs too soon after. Everything must be dry.
Even when I think I am being super careful and I insert the prongs and then futz around for a bit before I settle down, it seems my breathing body temp and the cannula/hose temp will create a little extra moisture....so I de-prong, wipe throughly, and begin again...this time no futzing around.

So is this JUST the sound or do you have a clear, watery nasal discharge when you blow your nose? Is water condensing in your nose?
It wouldn't be the humidifier

Kay, it may be that you're going through a period of congestion, and this is just what it sounds like.
Have you tried washing out your nose with a Neti Pot?

I prefer their "Sinus Rinse" squeeze bottle.
Also, I'm confused about your statement about "drying out your nose to the point of discomfort". I'm currently not congested, and my nose is dry inside and out, and I'm not uncomfortable. This is "Normal" for me. I'm not a dog - I don't normally have a wet nose.
Can you tell us what you're going through that you like to keep your nose wet?
Cheers,
Babs

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula.

When I mean to the point of discomfort, I mean dried out so much that it feels like a rash. My nose is always somewhat congested, back before I could even remember. One side of my nose is always stuffed, but it moves back and forth whenever it feels like.Babette wrote:Kay, it may be that you're going through a period of congestion, and this is just what it sounds like.

Frank/Kay, I get what you mean. You may need to work on clearing up that congestion. The Sinus Rinse will help. I'm a big fan of my cocktail - Claritin and Flonase.
You can get Claritin over the counter. If you can tolerate it, try taking some Pseudoephedrine for a few days/weeks, until you can get clear and revert to maintenance. Don't take it forever.
Really, the best thing is to be evaluated by a physician. But if that's not an option, you can try OTC antihistimes and decongestants until you find the cocktail that works for you.
Cheers,
B.
