Looking to make a Frankenstien mask and need some help

Post by Scuba_Steve » Sun Oct 21, 2007 1:55 pm

I'm don't know if anyone has tried this before but I'd like to try and combine two masks. I am looking for a "Y" adapter that will allow me to connect two masks to my CPAP machine. Obviously this is a project of frustration as I can't find a mask that suits me. I have tried Nasal pillows, full face masks, and the hybrid. But due to mouth breathing and comfort issues I can't find a single mask that works for me. The combination of the Oracle HC452 Oral CPAP Mask and the Mirage Swift II Nasal Pillow System seems to be the ticket to slumber bliss for me. The problem is how to connect two masks to my CPAP. So, does anyone know if there is a "Y" adapter out there for the hose?

Scuba Steve,

Good luck with your Frankenstein mask. I have posted several times that a good scuba gear mfg could do good job on masks. That's just my hunch, I'm not real experienced with diving. I am very disappointed with the cost of these.

Please post back and include photos of what you come up with. After all, a cpap machine is just a fancy air compressor and the mask .... well, I won't say what the mask is like.

May I suggest also, you check out feather/down pillows. I got mine from Target for 25 dollars and have gotten my first two good nights sleep on cpap.

I doubt that such a Y adapter for cpap use exists.

That would take some real Frankenstein-ish lab ratting. Not sure how you could figure out what to do about the two masks built in exhaust vents.

If you plugged the vents enough to equal the vent rate equivalent of "one mask", but began breathing in your sleep just one way...from mouth or nose...then "that mask"'s vent flow wouldn't be sufficient.

I guess you could somehow connect both masks together to make a single vent do the job.

What an undertaking though, to get the venting right. Good luck!! I admire your initiative in thinking about it.

Wonder if there's a way to stuff a mouth cushion of a Liberty in your mouth and still get the nasal pillows part of that mask up to the nostrils?

Ain't it the truth, Nightwatcher, about the outrageous cost of cpap masks...a little bit of silicone and a little bit of velcro.
