new mask help and pur sleep order help

Post by packer » Fri Aug 10, 2007 2:26 pm

get a new mask on Monday- hoping for suggestions
use aflex at 8 to 15 - using twilight np [ just out the box works great for me]
and have used swift 2 with success but have more leaks than twilight
I am a man with large hat size, mouth breathing not a problem
what would be another good choice??

also- going to buy Pur Sleep- should I just get starter pack or what would people recommend? most people seem to use clear which is included??
help here also please

I think this board is great- Rested Gal and others have been great help- for what its worth I hear my doc is now getting people into aflex- so talking about better equipment may do some good!

thanks for any help-- Packer

Get the starter pack. Buy it directly from their website - works very well, and you get the new starter pack with 3 pads.

I personally think everyone should try the Nasal Aire II, but I promise not to come knock on your door and shove it up your nose.

Click on my sig link below for more info on the NAII on my tip sheet.

Cheers,
B.

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

If you have an average size face I would suggest the Mirage Activa.

I have tried the optilife, the swift, Tiarra Snapp-X, Bravo, F&P 406, Ultra Mirage FF, Activa, Twilight NP, Comfort Gel, Oracle, Nasal Aire II and the best seal I ever get is the Activa. It is a quiet mask too.

Hi Packer,

I purchased the PurSleep starter pack through ebay as well, and would definitely recommend that as the way to go. By going through an ebay auction, I got it for a few dollars less than advertised on their website, and it's enough to find out whether you even like it or benefit from it.

If you can use the Twilight NP "out of the box", you might want to try either the Breeze, which is also good for side sleeping. I personally couldn't tolerate the headgear on either one.

The other suggestion I have would be to try the Hybrid or the Liberty. They will not give you the claustrophobic feeling of other full face masks, and might come in handy if you have a cold and can't breathe through your nose very well.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Bonnie

Packer,

If you want to stick with nasal pillows, a lot of people like the Breeze or the ComfortLite 2. The ComfortLite 2 also has available a simple cushion (a little nasal mask), the direct seal interface and the nasal pillows interface. The Mirage Activa is a good nasal mask if it fits you.

Hope you can get your Pur-Sleep starter kit ordered. I have been using it for about a week and I like all three of the scents in the starter kit.

Janna

comfortlite 2

Post by packer » Sat Aug 11, 2007 10:53 am

how does it work when you get comfortlite?
do you have to decide pilows or?

or do you get both?
\
got mt pursleep ordered!

this mask business is "kinda weird" I like what I use mostly

twilight np and aflex and heated hose has helped me consistently get around 3 for AHI-
which is good- yet I keep looking for more??
is that what continues to happen- or do long timers eventually settle
in and stay put with one mask?

I am at about 9 months now and feel like I have come far- yet am not even sure of what goal is??!!!

I feel better- that I think is the goal Packer

Packer,

I don't know what attachments your durable medical equipment provider will have to go with the ComfortLite 2. I just looked at cpap.com and see that with the CL2, you get either the nasal pillow and simple cushion or the direct seal and simple cushion. Maybe your DME can mix and match for what you think will work best for you.

Getting the right size attachment can be difficult. For many interfaces, people often find they have to get a size larger than they would think. I believe this is true of the CL2. I have a small face and usually use the medium size pillow. Sometimes I will switch to my small size pillow when I just can't seem to get a good seal. That was happening more and more recently. Then I decided my nasal pillow had reached the end of its useful life (about 6 months). I got a new medium size nasal pillow and it is working great.

I am not an old timer yet (have been on cpap about 10 months - just one month longer than you), so I can't speak for them. I see posts here from old timers who have found the one good mask and stick with it and I see others that keep experimenting for a variety of reasons. Some people are quite happy as long as their AHI is <5. Others seek and sometimes find that illusive 0.0 AHI.
