This is my first posting on this forum.

I have been on an auto-PAP machine for about a year now. After watching my health care provider pull all of this really cool sleep-history data from my Encore smartcard, I am interested in getting a copy of Encore Pro for home use (mainly out of curiosity). How many end-users who have no professional medical affiliation run their own Encore USB card readers and Encore Pro software.

What is the best source for patients to acquire their own card reader and software?

I do, and I got mine about a week ago from DirectHomeMedical.com. I received the software and the USB card reader. the price, in my opinion was fair ($169). A small price to pay to take control of your treatment if you ask me.

My medical equipment provider is willing to sell me a USB card reader and the current version of the software for $117 USD. I guess this is a good deal? I guess I'll jump on the option.

You need the DT3500 reader (gotta be that one). Two Factor is the cheapest place I know of to get it. They sell it for all of $24:

It says not in stock. I guess “Add to Shopping Cart” button is missing for that reason.

If that price includes the software and the Mako/Infineer DT-3500 card reader.....grab it!!! You won't find a better deal (unless somebody gives it to you for free, which is highly unlikely).

Grab that software while you can. If you search around here you will find a myriad of threads regarding the "pulling" of Respironics software for the end user. Be glad you have a source for 1.8 .

If I purchase this through my DME, I'd be getting a brand new, unopened copy of the latest version of encore pro from Respironics. She's selling me the software for $75, and the reader for $42. She's telling me that this price is pretty close to their cost as a DME. Apparently, once you get a copy running, it will do electronic updates over a broadband connection.

If everyone is saying this is such a good price, how much does this stuff typically run for?

It varies greatly... if you can find it at all.

The cost for the software is very reasonable that you have listed... definately snap that one up. The most that I've seen people list around here is $500. Plus we generally aren't allowed to get updates.

The reader on the other hand can be gotten cheaper... $24 is what I've seen from two factors

Crap! We can't get updates? So even if I buy the software, I won't be eligible for online updates? This would suck as I don't like having a software version locked in stone.

If the software typically goes for several hundred dollars, my DME stands to make some profit if they sell it for some price between $75 and $500.

I should definitely find out if my DME is interested in doing some business. Would there be interested potential buyers out there? I'll speak with my DME and if she's game, I can put anyone here in direct contact with her.

Don't worry about the updates (at this point).....if you've had your machine for a year. I'm still using 2-year old version 1.4.99 and from what I've seen, the newer versions are mainly cosmetic differences except for allowances for newer machines and the Vista operating system. If you are getting version 1.8, that will be good if you have or are upgrading to the Microsoft Vista operating system of if you should upgrade to an M Series Auto with A-Flex. The newer versions are all backward-compatible for previous machines.

Cool. Actually, I'm currently running a REMstar Auto M, which is a fairly nice machine. I begged my sleep doctor to give me an auto. My 7-day average can run anywhere from 7.5cm up to slightly above 10cm. My auto sometimes wakes me up cuz it's running at around 12cm, which is enough pressure to wake me up. Because I tend to need a lot of variability in pressure, I begged my doctor to set me up with an auto right from the beginning. My <=90% reading has gone from 10.6 to 9.6 in 4 months. A CPAP machine wouldn't have handled this.

Oops. Well, for what it's worth, that got across the Atlantic (from Hong Kong to the US) in under 2 weeks when I ordered it.
