Nasal Pillows for higher pressures?

Post by itchysmom » Sat Jul 21, 2007 10:52 am

My prescribed pressure is 12, but my auto will be set between 8 and 14.

I have been browsing for masks to see what I might want to try with my new aflex auto, and during my browsing I read that nasal pillows were not recommended for pressures greater than 10....any thoughts on that from all you experienced users??

Thanks!

Worked for me at 12cm. I just had the problem with my mouth opening and lips fluttering in the CPAP breeze! Chin strap is annoying and taping the mouth didn't do me good..So I went to the Hybrid!

Where did you read that?

The Breeze's nasal pillows docmunetation says it good for up to 30 (thirty!). And there have been happy users on the is forum with the Breeze at hight pressure.

I remember someone once quoted his/her RT as making that kind of statement. That won't be the first time nonsense has been stated by people who ought to know better.

I can't even remember which web site I was on when I read it, I was browsing through different sites.

I didn't think it was true, but I wanted to see what the veterans thought!

Thanks!

Good to hear!

When I got my first cpap unit last week she gave me (on my request) the Swift Mirage II nasal pillow mask. I LOVED IT!! It was comfy and I could lay on my side without leaks.

But, I would get a severe headache (in my forehead) almost immediately and also felt alot of pressure in my chest, even for hours after coming off the machine.

I then tried a FF mask. No HA or chest pain but couldn't wear it for more than 2 hours. Claustrophobia, sweating under the mask...panic feelings when I would wake up in the middle of the night.

I am getting an auto/aflex Monday and I would love to find the perfect mask and have a good nights sleep! I know that is probably a pipe dream but...

I also ordered Pur-sleep today because of the rave reviews on the other thread.

Thanks for all the input!!

I have used a Swift (original) at 18cm
At 22cm I have also used, with very few leaks, the Breeze, ComfortLite and ComfortLite 2. I am curretnly using the Optilife with virtually no leaks.

my thoughts are if you need to cince up too tight to stop leaks with pillows you will end up looking like Miss Piggy

Snoredog, TOO FUNNY!!!!!

My nose is swollen for about 10 mins after taking off my swift. Small price to pay for comfort and at least it doesn't last--at least not YET!!!!!

I didn't have that problem with optilife and size sml pillows, but I had leak issues with that. Once I changed to med size pillows I got rid of leaks but woke up with Miss Piggy Nose. OH, WELL!

That seems to be the difference with the Bravo from the Swift.
No pig nose with the Bravo. Other than that, their about the same.
