Yech! Does Anyone Else .... ???

Post by Slinky » Sun Jun 17, 2007 7:13 am

Does anyone else encounter thick, stringy, sticky mucus dropping into their mouth (from the sinuses?) most every morning???

Its not like my sinsuses are plugged or full as I can breathe just fine thru them. But those thick strings of sticky mucus are a bear! Blech. And for some reason they like to stick to your tongue when you try to spit them out.

I haven't experienced this, but if I were you i would try using a neti pot and a saltwater solution to rinse the sinuses out before bed. That should solve the problem. Just mho.

Maybe it is a Lake Michigan effect, you think, DivinMercy??

Thanks, SocksNitster.

I set my HH on max which pretty much nukes any mucus I had going in the first place. If you can tolerate sleeping in the jungle that might be worth a try.

Thanks, Blarg. I have COPD and do need the humidifier - BUT - I can't breathe well in hot and humid weather.

Same problem here, Slinky, but it is a recent one. We are under drought conditions here, and I think that has irritated my airway. I hope we, and my airway, get some rain soon.

Yeah, its been so hot here that I can't stand my Humidaire 3i even on one but I am running it as a passover humidifier. You may be right, BamaLady. Altho my mouth isn't dry I do feel a bit "sticky" in the AM and a couple of healthy sips of water sloshed around in my mouth seems to help get it draining and all out. And I may be running a bit dehydrated. Both my Sed rate and CRP were a bit elevated last blood draw.

Slinky, what a yummy description

Mine isn't necessarily stringy, but it sure is thick sticky. Seems like nothing wants to get it out!!!

Netti pots are good as well as Neilmed (my preference). Netti pots rely on gravity while Neilmed actually power flushes I'll use mine 2-3 times to get rid of the gunk in the morning! Night doesn't seem to work for me and if you do it within an hour of going to bed you have to watch out for the drips, bleech.

Just one more of those lovely CPAP effect discussions, excess gas, etc. Yep, I can fill a hot air balloon some days - sleep doc said "it shouldn't be too bad at your pressure." Yeah, right doc, why don't you just try saying that behind my back and while you're at it, could you light a match too

Maybe it IS a lake Michigan thang, never know... I don't care how high (or low) my humidifier is, doesn't stop the nasal stickies

To dream ... the impossible dream...
APAP since 4/12/07 still looking for the "perfect" mask. 1st ZERO AHI nite 6/7/07! 2nd 6/11
Using loaner Hybrid next 2 weeks. Fingers x'd

Same here, DeltaSeeker.

Powerfully hot here too, Slinky, but we have the a/c on all the time.

I'm a steamy kinda gal, so my HH is always on 5
Doesn't do anything to help avoid the aforementioned secretions.

I think Jen is farther south, so maybe proximity to Lake Michigan is a factor, after all

Just one more cool side effect of xPAP.

God Bless...Mary

I was thinking that my humidifier could be a cure for baldness. Seems like a tropical rain forest in my nose these days. I look like an 85 year old man.

Lake Michigan effect isn't as likely as a reverse Lake Huron effect, LOL!

However, I'm not living so far away from Slinky and haven't had a similar problem. Slinky, do you have air conditioning? I do, maybe that is the difference? Or, would there be any change because I do the nasal wash?

Best of luck with this problem. It must be annoying.

Make sure you stay well hydrated. 8 glasses of water are the minimum you should go for. Even more in hot weather.

We have central air. The ground floor doesn't need it, the kitchen level is cool enough I need a second shirt and the bedroom level is - warm.

Yup, drinking lots of water. Well, sipping all day long. Almost feel water logged. I just keep filling a 20 oz bottle of water from the tap as I empty it. I drink at least 4 of them a day.

Nope, I don't have those problems, or any sinus problems.

Anyone out there don't use their humidifier? I have a passover one, and I have stopped using it for about a year.
I asked a resp. therapist at an AWAKE meeting I went to(only one in 2 years), and she said that some people can do without it.

I'm just curious if there are any others out there who can do without one, as I can?
