Mobile Pulse ox iwith a low pulse ox warning?

Post by dllfo » Tue May 29, 2007 6:17 pm

I asked for a pulse ox measurement device I could be mobile with. I can walk down the hall, out to my car and so on.

I called Apria and they are trying hard to get me one, but the model they are suggesting is the Datex-Ohmeda Tru Sat Pulse Oximeter. It weighs almost 3
pounds and is about the size of a loaf of bread, based on the web picture in front of me.

Medicare turned down everything, as I expected. But this unit is not what I wanted. Plus, looking at one series of tests, it is not as good as the other two units. It is a lot worse in sensitivity, etc. Maybe I should email that to them.

I was hoping for a pulse ox I could wear on one finger and perhaps the alarm would fit like a large watch. Something like that would be mobile enough to walk around with it. Does anyone make one like that?

Apria says they don't carry the Hybrid because they cannot rely on the company to build them fast enough.

The Quattro by Resmed does not have a billing code out, so they will try to get that tomorrow.

I can use this while sitting or driving, so it isn't totally worthless. I need to find a much smaller unit.

I was looking at this one, I'm not sure if it is what you are looking for or not. You wear it on your wrist with something attached to your finger

http://www.spomedical.com/7500.php

If you google the SPO 7500, I'm sure you will find it.

Thank You..THAT looks what I need. $400 is the lowest price so far....

This one is perfect, except it doesn't have an alarm does it?

I need something I can wear all the time. I took the dog out this morning, came back in, checked my Pulseox and it was 79. And that is while I am conscious. The last two times I have passed out, the wife sticks the cannula in my mouth as she tries to put the SPO 5500 on my finger. I am usually around 80. I don't even walk next to our swimming pool anymore. I walk through her flower beds.

I will call SPO tomorrow to see if they have alarms on any of them. What a perfect size. Thanks for finding it.

Nonin also makes an excellent pulse ox and they now have a wrist pulse ox as well. No alarms that I know of tho. I like both my Nonin and my SPO 7500. I "think" the Nonin is more stable w/movement but I like the recording abilities of my SPO 7500.

Maybe you need a higher oxygen pressure than you are currently scripted? Or maybe, a conserver isn't the best mode of oxygen supplementation for you? I know I do MUCH better w/direct 02 supplementation than I do w/the darn pulse conserver. I could NEVER exercise in Pulmonary Rehab w/a conservor!!!

That model 5340 or was it 5350? Anyway, they are investigating getting one of those also.

Slinky, I am on continuous now. Have been for a few days, can't remember how long. An odd thing about much of the oxygen equipment is that it is set for 2 LPM. or it defaults to 2 LPM. Do you know why?

I did a test the other day, I laid down for about ten minutes, on 2LPM. Then for ten minutes at 3LPM and check my pulse ox then. I had to run the machine at 5 LPM to make 90.

It takes a higher pay grade than mine to figure it out.

Thanks, Dave

dllfo,

All of the portable pulse oximeters that I am familiar with do not have audible alarms. I think this is because they are designed for home monitoring overnight and then the results are usually printed out. Also in my experience, the probe is the weakest link as far as movement artifact is concerned. The disposable ones that apply like a bandaid give the best results but are expensive.

About the oxygen equipment: I am not familiar with it but when most patents are placed on supplemental oxygen it is usually at a rate of 2 liters per minute.

Good Luck...Joe

I just bought a Nonin Palmsat 2500A it can be carried in your
shirt pocket. It is very programable date, time, alarm can be set
at different percentages I am very happy with it at this point.

Shipping was free.

Hope this helps

dlfo, I'm afraid I can't answer your question. I have only been 02 not quite a year now but close to it.

However, there is an EXCELLENT e-mailing list, EFFORTS, specifically for those of us w/lung problems and most all of us on 02. There are several EXCELLENT RTs who check in on that list and answer questions and offer advice as well. This would be a good question for them. Or at least for one of them.

Send an e-mail to EFFORTS@EFFORTSLIST.ORG and put Gary Bain or Frank Barrett in the Subject and in your message ask them how to subscribe to the list. Maybe even introduce yourself if you feel so inclined. Then ask your question.

I will try to do that Slinky, EFFORTS sounds like exactly what I need, but my
memory is so darned bad, I had to copy that address into MS file, under
Respiratory items so I can remember it, then I flagged it on my reminder.

I called around on the 2500a, Nonin 8500a and so on. The "a" is for alarm.
The cheapest I found one WITH alarms was $530 plus shipping. It had no memory and no software. What discouraged me was the software is $350+ and then the cable to transfer the data. Adds up. But what I REALLY need is the alarm.

The 8500a was $560 delivered. I will check back on that. The 2500a is what I would like to have, but....Ultranebs has one cheaper, but I could not understand the lady. They advertise the 8500-A for $450, THEN she said that model did not have the alarms. I don't think that poor lady has had any training and she might not know what they have.

Ablong, thank you for the info at Turners. Did you get the software? I may break down and buy one, but the cost of this trip to Denver and not knowing what else will be going on, I hated to do it. If it weren't for that trip I would already have it in the air.

Sleepy dog lover, thanks for looking. It is too late to get anything in here before I leave, but if I can, I may call them from Denver & have it delivered.

Take care, Dave

Pulse ox

Post by ablong » Fri Jun 01, 2007 5:27 pm

dilfo You asked if i purchased software for the 2500a.
The answer is yes. I purchased the Profox for this machine
but i am thinking of upgradeing to a version which reads
other machines Like some models of Nelcore I see on the
Internet. I am lucky I have a DR who will give me a script
for almost any thing I ask if it will helpand the Ins does not have to
pick up the tab. So far the sleep dr has seen one session with
the Pulse Ox his tech down loaded memory using his Nonin
software. I go next Tues and hear his evaluation. It looks as
though my average with cpap on air is still a little low.

lots of luck Allen

Ps I will post my changes as time goes on

turner has the 2500A for $575 I think, with memory and alarm. That is the best I have seen. I caved today and called to buy it, but they were closed. Get this, their circuits were busy. The whole area code I guess. I would have even paid for overnight Saturday delivery.

They have another unit, last years model I guess, supposed to be the same, for $530, I forget the number, something like 8500A.

I leave for Denver Monday morning, no way I can get it now. I may order it while in Denver. I get this strange yellow loaf of bread with a handle. I forget the name. Hope it works.

Ablong, I just emailed Turner, asking what it would run for a package deal?
The 2500A, a cable to offload data on to my Dell 6400, the software and any thing else I would need. I think I saw an ad for this setup for $1035. I could also be delusional....

I asked them if Icould call one of their techs if I have a problem installing it.

Suggestions?

thank you, but exactly what equipment did you buy? Just the three things?
The2500A, the software and a cable?

Would you have bought anything different if you were doing it again?

Thanks
