Sleep Data Recording CPAP's versus Sleep Studies

Post by schaefage » Mon Mar 26, 2007 1:44 pm

Hello Everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone here knows if the cpap machines that record your nightly data (ie smart card, encore pro, etc) have been tested against real sleep studies to validate their accuracy for recording events.

No, it's not fair to try to compare Apples against Oranges. You can't even compare a Sleep Test with one from another place, no set standards followed or like equiptment, or personnel. Jim

Thanks,

I agree with Jim in that it's comparing apples to oranges in the respect that people don't sleep the same in a sleep lab as opposed to how they sleep at home.....or all wired up.
However, I've wondered about how closely these data recording XPAPs come to the "real deal". In my mind, the people who designed these machines and the recording capabilities DID do a significant amount of testing and comparisons before selling these machines.
Are they "perfect"?....no.....they're solely based on air flow. But, at least it gives us a "yardstick" to use.

I would say for about 85% of us, the ones that don't have other baggage, than normal Sleep Apnea, With the software and common sense, and maybe a little help, you can get as good or better treatment from the use of a APAP to find the treatment you need sometimes CPAP is best, with the right equiptment you have options.

You sure stand less of a chance using faulty setting from a sleep lab and low grade DME equiptment. My sleep lab came close, and my equiptment was good, but by getting software and better equiptment I am doing way better running my own show. Jim

I still see the Dr., he rubber stamps what I do, and says carry on. (every 3 months)
