SmartStart Feature autostop not working

Post by macmermaid » Thu Jul 04, 2019 11:30 am

Hi All,

So I have had my Airsense Autoset 10 For Her for almost a year now. The SmartStart feature is enabled and I've had no problem with it up until a couple of days ago. I checked the settings and it is enabled.- I actually turned it off and back on again. I have not changed my mask or tubing and there are no holes. I have Dreamwear with a nasal cushion. The pressure is set fro 4 to 20 and has not ever been changed.

The past couple of days, when I get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and when I get up and take it off the mask in the morning, it keeps blowing really hard until I press stop. I look at the panel and it shows it is still running and the pressure level, etc until I press the stop button. It is definitely not just the light air that blows when you first take it off to dry the condensation in the hose.

Also, last night, maybe unrelated, I was awakened because the pressure had gone way up and I couldn't exhale. I took the mask off and put it back on and it was still blowing too hard. So, I turned the machine off and back on and then it seemed to go back to normal. All in the middle of the night!

I do not have a DME because I bought the machine from CPAP.com. Does anybody know if CPAP.com will help me with the warranty or do l need to call ResMed?
Does anybody know offhand how long the warranty lasts? I am a few days away from having the machine for a year.

Thanks!

Turn off smartstart. Just turn the machine on and off manually.
I and a few others have had problems with it.
A few of the machine appear to have various glitches.
My personal glitch (with my machine) is that it would turn itself off(while I was asleep) on its own. Not fun.
I turned off smartstart and have had no problems since.
After all how much trouble is it to go back to the old days and turn it off and on manually? :)
Good luck, JPB

Many people have complained about the auto off feature. It is very sensitive. Just as Jimbud indicated...turn it off manually. It can't be too difficult unless your machine is in a difficult location. Warranty is 2 years...are you prepared to be without your machine for several weeks?

100% As a Mechanic I'd have to train heavy equiptment operators to operate Mining Trucks, they would jump into the Cab, look at the controls and ask me how do you start this thing. I'd tell them that was the last question, what they needed to get down was How Do I Stop This Thing! Horse Power, 1200, Speed
M.P.H., Loads of 150 Ton, much harder to stop than start.

Odds.are your XPAP if fine use the buttons, you could let it set unplugged so it will reset.Cpap.Com gave you the manuals to set your machine (The Secret Handshake book) and in it is the warranty info, setting up info, I am guessing two years... I'd lre my fingers do the walking, use the buttons. Jim

It only "blows hard" when the mask is off, because the poor thing is trying to pressurize your entire room, instead of the small space between the mask and your face.

As soon as you put the mask on, it *immediately* goes back to normal operation.

i'm trying to get the ahi in my bedroom to a reasonable level.

if i post some charts, can you help?

to the OP: yes, there has been some talk about this on the forum here before. so some machines develop this "feature".

the only way to know if cpap.com stands behind the warranty is to contact them.

i'm guessing they will, but that's just a guess.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Warranties are generally for two years (unless stipulated otherwise). CPAP.COM is your first line for warranty service. They're GREAT.
I'm with the others.......just turn it off manually. It's probably not the machine, but mask or other factors like leaks.

You'll have to put the machine outside the room, and tape... *extensively* to maintain a good seal in the room.

While a stupid solution, it still will not work even if you use a 60 inch barn fan. IXPAP works by keeping the pressure inside your airway at a higher CM than the room air surrounding your body.

In an earlier thread, I posited that making auto-off harder to engage might be a safety feature.
Auto on: good, but only when it works.
Auto off: nice when it works--otherwise, no biggie.

I had a similar issue with my unit. (Same)
The AutoStop quit working. You'll see replies above that suggest just using the on/off button, but you also mentioned other issues.
I had the same problem. First autostop quit, but then I had some nights where I was struggling for air.
Bottom line? My unit has been out for repair for one month. It's on the way back to my DME from the warranty repair.
I hope to get an update of what they found. My advice, if auto stop is has suddenly stopped working, and you don't have any mask or tube problems, leaks, etc., you probably want to have it checked out. When my DME contacted Resmed, their folks did on online check, and said no problem found. Thankfully the DME had checked the unit and confirmed that it was NOT working properly. Resmed authorized the return, and I hope to get the unit back in the next week.

If you are having issues, insist on a proper repair.

Unless there is a back up machine, having a machine out for a month could be a disaster for some people.
