Mouth taping issues
So I've been taping for years using blue painters tape and it worked fine. But lately I've noticed that I seem to be blowing more air out of my mouth, and often the tape ends up leaking and I wake up with a very dry mouth. My numbers are still quite low, but the desert mouth is unpleasant.
1. Should I switch to a different type of tape that won't come loose during the night?
2. Any thoughts about why I would have developed more of a mouth blowing habit?
Lately I've just been putting on a new piece of tape in the middle of the night when I get up to use the bathroom.

Do you practice regularly keeping the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth? It's recommended.remstarcpap wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 3:31 pmAny thoughts about why I would have developed more of a mouth blowing habit?

I can't speak to how effective it is versus painter's tape, but I use Transpore without any issues (other than a bit of gummy/sticky residue to clean away). It's more moisture resistant than painter's tape, which seems to help prevent the tape from coming loose during the night. Good luck!

I use Somnifix, which works well, I think. The big drawback is cost.

Does your jaw drop? I am wondering if those still work well for people whose jaw sometimes drops during the night.Miss Emerita wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 7:02 pmI use Somnifix, which works well, I think. The big drawback is cost.

My jaw drops, and the Nexcare sensitive skin tape (blue) works for me.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Wed Jun 12, 2019 7:01 amDoes your jaw drop? Re: Mouth taping issues
Yes Jaw and Tongue Drop! I am on night 5 with Bleep. I used Micropore and taped myself silly. I have done this before but with other tapes and many other masks. There is NO WAY I can open my mouth. But, at some point when I am sleeping my tongue comes off the roof of my mouth, teeth separate, and jaw drops just enough for me to begin sounding like pigs are rooting in my throat. Before taping, I also discovered with SnoreLab that I talk in my sleep. That and pigs rooting are more so in the morning and then of course I am waking up constantly and don't get good rest. Here is my Oscar and SnoreLab for last night. I'm new so I hope I did it correctly. I couldn't sleep until around 4. For those of you who have jaw drop and then creepy sounds coming out of your throat even though your mouth is taped tighter than a tick, what is the solution? I can't wear a chin strap because I have scalp allodynia. Any and all suggestions welcome!

Re: Mouth taping issues
Your FLs (flow limitations) are high. Your pressure settings may be too low. The pressure is bumping up against the max setting for much of the night.
You could try bumping your min pressure to 6 and max to 10. The next morning you can check if those FLs are reduced and see where the max pressure is going.
Re: Mouth taping issues
a firm foam cervical collar will help hold your jaw up. should be able to find them at your local drugstore or maybe even grocery store.
the other suggestion (i use both) is this-

i slightly modify this and it works a treat for me. not sure if the soft hair bands would bother your noggin or not.
good luck!

Yeah, I’ve made weird noises like that, tactfully pointed out by my husband.zonker wrote: ↑Wed Jun 12, 2019 6:08 pm

[edit: oops, missed what you said about the allodynia. But the scunci bands really are nice and soft, compared to headgear and jaw straps]

Well at least you weren’t in “epic” territory!
Two thoughts.
If you don’t like the cervical collar, you might want to try the Dr. Dakota collar. Once you adjust it, it supports your jaw just at the chin end.
In a variety of posts, I’ve read that maximizing EPR can help with flow limitations. I wonder whether one of the experts could comment on whether that might help here.

@remstarcpap: iI see you have been around since 2009.
I have noticed the quality of many products has deteriorated significantly in the last few years.
You could try a new roll--(adhesive ages in the drawer)--or a better brand from their competitors.
It bites, but we must adjust.

You're right - this is recommended a lot.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 4:55 pmDo you practice regularly keeping the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth? In my case, my tongue is in the ideal position naturally all day long. But as soon as I fall asleep that sucker drops down. Like everything else - YMMV.
Maybe it's worn out at the end of the day - perhaps I should try letting it rest during the day so it's got some energy to to stick in place at night.
I'm trying to let it relax as I'm typing this - that's not gonna happen.

i'm content with trying to stay away from hideously ugly territory myself.
be careful trying too many new things at once. if something doesn't work out for you, you may not know which it is.
