S9 and Airsense 10 --How does humidifier work?

I have both machines and I am wondering if either humidifier is working. I've always kept humidity setting low. Recently I turned the heat setting up to 86 degrees and in the morning when I turned the machine off the metal plate under the humifier was completely cold. It happened with both machines. Is that right? I realized I didn't know how it was supposed to be working.
Similarly, how can you tell if the Climateline hose is working? Does that always give an error message if it is faulty?

Hose air temperature isn’t governed by the heater plate at all.

Two totally separate functions. Hose air temp for the air in the hose and the heater plate under the water chamber for regulating humidity per whatever you have selected combined with the ambient humidity in the bedroom.

I've sometimes doubted that my climate hose was working. To test it, I changed the hose temperature to maximum, on my machine it's 86. With a machine that had been off for 30 minutes I could feel the tube heat up in my hand. If you can't tell put the hose in a colder place than your bedroom for 30 minutes and then try again.

All that matters is the '1' for humidity, and that's low, so it only heats up the water a little, as needed.

I am not familiar with the S9, but I have the Air Curve 10 which has a preheat option. Of your machine has this option, put a small amount of water in the water chamber, start the preheat option, then after 10 minutes see if the metal plate is warm. This will confirm if it is working or not.

Maybe, it would depend on the humidity in your room.

Using the pre-heat function would be the best test.

With the S9 you have to hold down a button (or maybe 2 buttons) to start the preheat option but it’s been so long Since I used the S9 that I forget which buttons and how long.
It’s all explained in the clinical/provider manual though.

It's explained on the display... actually, when you go to the humidifier setting, there's a graphic at the bottom of the display... hold down the knob.

What is causing you to be concerned about the plate warming up?

As far as I can tell by the *VERY* infrequent reported failures of Resmed humidifiers, they do a self test diagnostic, and report errors.

My S9 totally conked out last summer after (only) four years. The DME where I got the machine gave me an old S9 to use until I can replace it. My insurance changes to Medicare in January and I'm hoping to start the process of getting a new machine. I wanted to understand if the humidifier is working so that I can accurately describe what shape the machine is in if I need to.
I got the Warm Up to work last night.

All you will need for Medicare coverage of a new CPAP machine is a statement from your doctor that you have had a sleep study and you have been compliant with CPAP. Your old machine can still be functioning perfectly and Medicare will cover a new one.

Here's a tip about humidifiers. Compare the level of water in the morning to the level that was there when you went to bed.
