Did I kill my machine?

Post by babydinosnoreless » Sat Nov 24, 2018 7:28 am

At some point last night it apparently landed on the floor. I woke up this morning with it still running but when I was 3/4 asleep when I picked it up confused as heck and turned it upside down. It instantly shut off. Still very confused and asleep I turned it over and accidently hit the on button. It came on but no air coming out. So I picked it up still on and all this water came pouring out the hose. When I sluggishly realized water was pouring out and the machine was still plugged in I unplugged everything hung my hose up to dry and my machine is sitting on end on a towel to let all the water drain out. Did I kill it? I'm afraid to turn it on I want to let anything that got wet dry out. Its brand new and I am still paying a fortune for it. I can't afford to replace it 😭 will my insurance do if it is broken ?

The humidifier tank is designed to only let water out the hose not into important parts of the machine. Your going to need to try it at some point I suggest make sure it’s as dry as you can then connect it up and turn it on. That’s perfectly safe for you as it’s only 24 volts. If it’s broke take it back to your DME say it fell and stopped working they will sent it back under warranty

Take a big plastic baggie....put a nice layer of rice in it....remove the water chamber...stick the machine in the plastic bag on top of the rice....seal up the baggie. Let it sit all day.
Try the machine tonight.

FYI:

For future consideration:

Whenever you buy electronic devices or anything with the "do not eat" silica gel packs, save them in a sealed Tupperware.

Should you need them in an emergency like this, they are a lot more efficient at absorbing moisture than than rice. I keep a few in my spare/travel machine as well.

I couldn't wait till tonight. I have a fun day planned with my friend and would have spent the day worrying about it if I didn't check. I let it sit for like 3 hours with the fan blowing on it then plugged it all back in. It seems to all be working. I can hear the air blowing a little now where i didn't notice it before but I am being extremely super parinoid so it may be nothing. 🤞🏻 I unplugged it again and letting is sit some more in case it wasnt completely dry.

Crystal kitty litter is the same stuff, just larger pieces. I use them in my car to reduce condensation (older car, door seal leaks a little).

You may want to evaluate the place where you keep it, as it seems you have a particularly expensive machine. There should be a barrier to prevent overturning or knocking over.

It was on my nightstand, it is now strapped down with bungie cords. :). I decided if I had killed it the dme could take it back and they could fight it out with the insurance company. I would buy one on somewhere online and the dme and the insurance company could kiss my behind.

Lol. I am going to have to hope I don't need to. I've got 13 more
months to go to pay off insurance and dme on this one. But if it breaks for whatever reason they had better fix it. If not, they won't see another dime from me.

When you decide to look for a back up machine, check here for machines. Various members sell slightly used machines at very reasonable prices. Also, check your local Craig's List and Facebook Marketplace. I recently picked up an AirCurve 10 VAUTO with only 106 hours on it for $225. I found it on the local Facebook Marketplace.

In such a case, you should know what most people would do. Make sure it is thoroughly dried. Take it to the DME and say it quit working.

The tie down solution worked but just barely. I had a bad night, one more good tug and it looks like it would have landed on the floor again. Can you all show me how you have your machines tied down so they don't fly off the nightstand. My husband says remove the towel but I am afraid of ruining the finish.
