Reduce noise on Airmini and use any mask
I'm using an AirSense 10 at home and wanted a travel CPAP machine. Without reading the forums, I decided to purchase the Airmini based on its size and portability. I was disappointed when I discovered it to be noisier than the AirSense 10. I found this forum and read that the noise was coming from the humidX housing. I designed a connector that by-passed the humidX housing but unfortunately, it didn't solve the issue.
After some research, I found the following:
https://goo.gl/5sA9tE
As the Airmini uses a proprietary connector, I designed a connector that could be used with any standard 22mm tubing:
Here it is with the Qtube muffler attached:
From my personal observations, the Qtube muffler greatly reduced the noise with the N20 mask I'm using. It's still not as quiet as my AirSense 10 but it's acceptable, at least for me.
For anyone interested in my connector, it could be found here:

It's connected to the Airmini using an interference fit. I may add the "tabs" at a later date and will update the files accordingly.

Re: Reduce noise on Airmini and use any mask
How do I go about ordering this connector? Also, is the QTube you attached the same one that is used for the Z1 machine? I believe that's the only one available? I just need to know which parts I need to get and where to purchase them from as the noise coming from the humidex fitting is driving me nuts and I was really hoping to use the Airmini for travel.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Reduce noise on Airmini and use any mask
So I've gone ahead and ordered it using one of the 3D print services available through Thingiverse. I've also ordered QTube and hope this all works out as I really like the travel size of this machine.
Thanks
Thanks

The QTube attached is the same one used for the Z1. It comes with the 8" extension tube that connects to one end of the QTube and the other to the custom connector for the Airmini on Thingiverse. If you don't have access to a 3D printer, you could order it through one of the services on Thingiverse.jagstyles wrote: ↑Thu Sep 06, 2018 7:00 pmHow do I go about ordering this connector? Re: Reduce noise on Airmini and use any mask
It does reduce the noise to an acceptable level that I could fall asleep. It's still not as quiet as my AirSense 10. Without the QTube, the noise was so bad that I could not fall asleep and had to stop using it.
Re: Reduce noise on Airmini and use any mask
As long as it reduces the "darth vadar" sound enough that I can fall asleep, I'm good with that. Anything is better than the current sound and I'm quite shocked that resmed thought this level of noise from the humidex chamber was acceptable.digitaldog888 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 10, 2018 9:09 pmIt does reduce the noise to an acceptable level that I could fall asleep. Maybe Resmed's intended market for the Mini is the HOH/deaf.

Re: Reduce noise on Airmini and use any mask
Got the 3D printed item today and definitely improves the sound. Still a bit louder than my airsense 10 machine but works well. Question, I received two pieces. One has the latches where you insert it into the airmini, not sure what the other piece is for though?digitaldog888 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 10, 2018 9:09 pmIt does reduce the noise to an acceptable level that I could fall asleep. Re: Reduce noise on Airmini and use any mask
I designed two versions of the connector. One with the "tabs" to lock it in place with the Airmini. The other version without the "tabs" uses an interference fit and may slip out. Depending on the print settings, the one with the "tabs" might break if too much pressure is applied.jagstyles wrote: ↑Mon Sep 17, 2018 8:16 pmGot the 3D printed item today and definitely improves the sound. Another item you might want to consider is the Z1 HME for humidification:jagstyles wrote: ↑Mon Sep 17, 2018 8:16 pmGot the 3D printed item today and definitely improves the sound. Essentially, with the custom connector, Qtube and the Z1 HME, you have a Z1 travel CPAP solution but only with an Airmini

Re: Reduce noise on Airmini and use any mask
I see how to connect the Thingiverse connector to the AirMini and to the Qtube, and how to connect a Z1 HME. But how do I connect the AirMini air tube + mask to the Z1 HME (or directly to the Qtube)? I have the two Thingiverse connectors shown above, but neither connects to the AirMini air tube. I think I must be missing something. Help?

No reason for all this proprietary nonsense.
Just greed and a very TWISTED sense of humor.

You are this was designed to connect a normal cpap tube not the airmini tubelnichols wrote: ↑Sat Feb 02, 2019 5:54 pmI see how to connect the Thingiverse connector to the AirMini and to the Qtube, and how to connect a Z1 HME. Re: Reduce noise on Airmini and use any mask
Sorry, I am rather new to CPAP. The heading mentions AirMini. What is a “normal CPAP tube?” And how do I connect the mask that came with my AirMini to this Qtube? Thanks!
