Desperate Woman!

Post by Nenetx2004 » Wed Jan 10, 2007 10:37 am

No, I'm not looking for a date! I was diagnosed with OSA in November 2004 and I've been 100% compliant. However, I'm still feeling some significant daytime drowsiness. On top of this, I'm not waking up in the mornings......my mom calls me, I talk to her and then go back to sleep and have no recollection of her calling me. My alarm had gone off this morning and went on for 2 1/2 hours before I finally woke up!

Fortunately, I have an understanding manager and she knows she'll get 40 plus hours of work from me. I'm under the care of a really good neurologist who specializes in sleep disorders. I just wanted to see if I could get some feedback from my fellow hoseheads!

Jeanne,

Still having problems? (I went back through your posts to refresh my memory and found the above posts.)
What is your pressure set to?
Do you know if you had/have any other issues (like central apneas)?
You've been struggling with this a long time.
Have you re-addressed these problems with your doctor since you got the Auto Spirit?

Best wishes,

Den

I'd press the left & right outside buttons and check the AHI stats. Would also help to know what the 95% pressure is.

If centrals were seen on the PSG the Spirit is the wrong machine to have especially if a snorer.

One question is this: Are you getting to bed early enough?

I've been on CPAP since August, and felt wonderful for a few months. Then I started feeling bad again, and couldn't figure out why.

It seems like I went back to my old habits of getting too little sleep. When I started CPAP I was diligent and got 9 hours sleep a night, which is what my body seems to need. I slowly started scraping by on five and six hours of sleep, and felt horrible.

Now I'm better that I realize I MUST get 9 hours. Make sure that you are getting enough time for sleep.

Get your sugar levels tested.I found out I was borderline for diabetes this way and then lowered my sugar levels by taking up rollerskating again. If you also feel really sleepy after eating breads and carbs, fall asleep and others have a hard time waking you up and you have no recollection of anyone talking to you, this is also a sign.Get a glucose tolerance test ordered by your doctor. Also try mouth taping. You might be snoring and not know it.This cancels the CPAPs positive effects.

Hi,

I'm not very good at this board stuff - but I wanted to ask a question about your comment about taping your mouth. What sort of tape do you use that comes off again without taking some skin or irritating your skin?

Also, while I'm asking questions, what is all this water that collects in the tube - why does it do that and how can I stop it.

What type of tape do you use? Doesn't that irritate your skin?

You will find that we all use whatever tape happens to work for us. I use Kendalls tenderskin paper tape. I have exzema and need to be very careful with anything that touches my skin. The tenderskin tape sticks very well and comes off easily in the am. You can get it at any medical supply store.
The water that collects in the tube is condensation. It is the moisture in the air forming droplets when it hits the cooler room air. A hose cover works well for most. Also helps to be sure the machine is lower than the bed( I keep mine on the floor). If you still get the rainout with a hose cover, you may need to get the Aussie heated hose.

Thanks to Jeanne and to Neversleeps for the helpful info. I'm on my way to Walgreens today and will also check out the one Jeanne mentioned but have to get at a medical supply.

I Turned down my humidifier last night and that seemed to fix the rainout problem, but I think I will try lowering the machine itself so that I can warm the air up more.

It's funny because I am almost certain that the Resp Tech who brought out the machine cautioned me against having the machine lower than my head!

The heated hose might be a good idea but I hate to get even more equipment if I can help it.
