Resmed Aircurve 10 Auto-Start Feature

Post by pdx1953 » Sat Oct 21, 2017 4:15 pm

Greetings -

I just received a new Aircurve Bi-Pap yesterday & supposedly it'll start after the mask is on & I start breathing. My previous Bi-Pap (Respironics) would start after three or four breaths & I found it quite handy. I know how to access the clinician settings screen but can't find anything there or in the user settings. Maybe the wording is changed?

Any suggestions?

On ResMed machines it is called SmartStart and it's in the clinical settings and there is only one choice.
SmartStart being on does the auto on and also will shut off when you take the mask off after just a few seconds.

Respironics machines have 2 settings to get this done.
Auto On...which means when on the machine will start after a few breaths
Auto Off...when it is on it means the machine will turn itself off after you remove the mask but it takes a lot longer than the ResMed does to turn it off. Respironics takes about a minute and ResMed takes just a few seconds.

Thanks for the info but I just went through every line item 3 times & there's no Smart Start in either the user or clinician settings.

What sub-menu would it be under? I'm pretty sure I hit everyone of them as well.

Well - I did find Smart Start under Options but it's greyed out & can't be set. Rather strange I think unless there's something else that needs to be turned on/off to allow it to be selected.

I have it available in 2 places...one from the patient screen (My Options) and the other in the clinical settings menu right under Essentials found in Settings.

If you have leak alert turned on you may not have it available. Leak alert needs to be off.
Edit...if it is grayed out it is because of Leak Alert being on...turn leak alert off and it will become available and not grayed out.

Do you have the provider manual for your machine?
If not request it here.

"Manual? We don't need no steeking manual....." (Loosely related to a famous movie quote.)

Auto Leak was on, I turned it off & viola`!! I now have Smart Start.

Thanks a million, which isn't worth as much as it was 50 years ago.

Pugsy, thank you so much. I just acquired a second Aircurve 10 ASV for travel, and I couldn't figure out why the SmartStart was grayed out. I incorrectly thought that perhaps the older 2015 machine didn't have that feature.

But sure enough, once I followed your instructions and turned off Leak Detection, I was able to turn on SmartStart.

One other feature that appears (??) to be related is that previously the Sleep Report was not showing my AHI score. That line did not appear on the screen. But once I turned on SmartStart, the line with AHI score showed up on the Sleep Report.

I'm so pleased to have these two features working, so now my two machines work identically.

Thanks again, Pugsy.

Thanks, Pugsy!

We picked up DH's AirCurve 10 ASV yesterday and were told that there isn't an auto-start option. I've just requested the manuals from the Apnea Board for his ASV and my AirSense 10 AutoSet. Anything to help DH adapt to the ResMed after his previous PR System One ASV

Whoever told you that... was wrong. It's under the 'options' menu in the clinical settings. Though, Leak Alert has to be off.

Probably a good idea to discount, or at least, triple check anything that person told you.
