Flooding. Why?
Flooding. Why?
In the last two weeks, I've now had two instances with flooding.
Philips dream station, and dreamwear mask, and a hose sock.
Cpap on the nightstand, hose draped up and over the headboard that is pretty tall. Rolled over on my side, and I comes the water drops to tickle my nose. Mask had water all over inside.
This is the first time it's ever happened to me in almost a year of use.
Big question is why?

Re: Flooding. Why?
It sounds like the humidifier setting is too high. Do you really need that much?
Re: Flooding. Why?
Bedroom air temp maybe just a tiny bit cooler?
If not using a heated hose maybe the ambient humidity in the bedroom is a little bit higher?....been raining lately where you live?
It's Physics in action...either the humidity in the hose has increased a little or the ambient room temp has cooled a little bit or maybe a little of both.
See this thread posts # 2 and 3 for various options.

You have trouble reading don't you!!! Machine is ON the nightstand and HOSE is routed UP over the headboard.xxyzx wrote:=========JasonK94Z wrote:In the last two weeks, I've now had two instances with flooding.

too much water condensing in the hose is why
lower the machine from the top level of the bed and let the hose come up not down
change the amount of humidity to be lower
increase the hose temp
WOO WOO I just proved you wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

XX. please explain to me how water can go uphill from the machine to the top of the headboard, along the headboard and down to the mask. The down to the mask part is only a few inches since the rest of the hose is HIGHER than the machine. You will never accept that you can make a wrong statement on any subject since you are soooo well read and perfect.

you are so stupid
the hose should come up to the bed not over the headboard and down
the nightstand must be lower than the bed
many nightstands are higher
Re: Flooding. Why?
The hose travels UP then over the headboard that's pretty tall. Then down to my head.xxyzx wrote:======3458 wrote:You have trouble reading don't you!!! I found the humidity setting changed for some reason. Odd. I turned it back down.

Something changed to cause the condensation when for such long time there was never a problem with the past setup.JasonK94Z wrote:I found the humidity setting changed for some reason. Odd. I turned it back down.
Looks like you figured out what changed...the humidity setting. Maybe it got bumped or something.

Re: Flooding. Why?
I don't need to try and fix this as the poster noticed the change in humidity settings and switched it back.
One thing to think of though. If you want more humidity you just have to play with the physics. I use a lot of humidity year round in my setup. So I use a heated hose and I use a home made fleece hose cover I sewed out of a 100 inch section of cloth.
If your getting rain out the answer may not always be to lower the humidity, at least not if you want to maintain higher humidity and get away with it.
Just something to think about.
Combining heated hose and a nice heavy hose cover makes for a happy rain-out free hose under almost all conditions. Months down the line we'll be entering winter and I don't turn the heat on in my house. Temps get in the low 60's to upper 50's in our bedroom. I still use humidity at high settings even then. Sometimes you'll have to insulate around your mask too if your getting condensation there. Just be mindful of the exhaust vents and be careful not to block them or obstruct them in anyway.
"You mentioned hose sock" I take it that means you use a hose cover as well.
Is your hose heated though? Combining the hose cover with a heated hose is what "I found" made my setup bullet proof as far as preventing rain out. I only get a little condensation now just in my mask and only then when it really gets cold in my room.
Hope this helps and glad you were able to work out the problem on your own.
Good luck and sleep well.

Re: Flooding. Why?
Harvey dropped over 45" of rain on my house since Friday. My nose loves humidity, plus it keeps my skin soft. Even with a heated hose, I occasionally get some drops on my nose from some breath condensation in my pillow and short hose.chunkyfrog wrote:" . . . down to the mask"

Since I live in the land of air conditioning, extracted water flows from the condensing unit. But I still run my heated humidifier/hose on auto, year round.
My APAP sits on a small stool, the hose runs up to the headboard, then drops down to my mask (just like the Frog). I attach my P10 short hose to the top of my head (see Swift LT).

Sending you wishes for way for better days ahead. I'm having trouble picturing how you attach the P10 short hose. Is it independent of the P10 headgear?poppi2 wrote:Harvey dropped over 45" of rain on my house since Friday. My nose loves humidity, plus it keeps my skin soft. Re: Flooding. Why?
Someone jinxed me...I woke up to gurgling in my hose and mask this morning.
Who put the evil rain out eye on me?
I know why it happened though...nice night outside and I slept with the window open which is right next to my bed and the nice cool air caused the ambient room temperature to drop to a point that the heated hose couldn't maintain the needed temp to hold onto the moisture. I should have turned up the temp on the heated hose just a little bit but I didn't think about it.
Just like I didn't think about putting the SD card back in the machine last night...here it sits on my computer...which means no graphs from last night.
I just didn't think very well at all last night.

Re: Flooding. Why?
Yes, it is independent of the P10 headgear. I use the PAPCap chin strap (https://www.cpap.com/productpage/pursle ... ct-image-3). The cap has a loop on the top that I attach the short hose to. For me, the PAPCap is also great for sticking my P10 headgear straps to the Velcro to give me the perfect fit for the pillow.Bertha de Blues wrote:....Sending you wishes for way for better days ahead. Because I love the nasal pillows and am a diehard lip leaker, I must tape my lips. When I learned that I no longer wake during a power failure, I added a pressure valve to the short hose (https://www.cpap.com/productpage/respir ... chine.html) to serve as a functional anti-asphyxia valve. It does add weight, so having everything anchored to my PAPCap eliminates that problem.
