Now that you have used the Hybrid
Now that you have used the Hybrid
Some questions now that you have used the Hybrid for awhile. I find it a fussy mask but you notice I am still using it. So are you still using yours? If not, how long did you try to get it to work for you?
Faced with the choice between changing one's mind and proving that there is no need to do so, almost everyone gets busy on the proof.....Galbraith's Law
Only took about a week to get used to the mask.
Now I would find it very hard to go back to any other FF mask.

I found the mask to easier to fit using a mirror the first week or so. Then, I seemed to get the knack for placing the pillows, top lip line and chin flap just exactly where they needed to be for a no-leak night!
After having a minor setback where I had to go without my Hybrid for the past week, I am happy to report that I am back in business tonight!
I have certainly missed the ease of use and the comfort of the Hybrid over the last eight nights and can't wait to get back to normal tonight !

Hybrid Mask
I tried mine for the first time last night. On the positive side it was easy to assemble and adjust and felt comfortable on the face and I didn't notice any leaks at first. The downside was before I had gone to sleep it had developed leaks and I noted my auto-pap with settings from 5-10 had already gone to 10. I re-set my machine to not exceed 8 as this is my pre-set pressure for a straight c-pap machine and my thoughts were if the machine couldn't go up any higher than 8 this would reduce the leaking from the higher pressure that it was immediately going to. It must not have worked well for me in view of my software readings this a.m. My AHI was 7.7 compared to a regular range of 0.6 to 1.9 with my Breeze. The machine ran 36% of the night @ 8 the highest setting with a large leak of 38 minutes and an unreal snore reading averaging 392.6 @ a pressure of 8 with 6 min of average time in apnea. Pressure readings normally used with my Breeze are 50% or more of the night is at 5 with the rest of the night running at 6 and 7 and occasional short spans of time at 8 or 9. Snore factor of 2 to 5 usually most nights and I never have any large leaks noted. Time in apnea is usually less than a minute. Since my readings were so poor I'll probably just reserve this one as a back-up mask for when I have that occasional cold with a plugged up nose that makes it difficult to use my Breeze. I continue to search and hope to find that perfect interface, but in the meantime I always go back to the Breeze which continues to be my favorite for 2 years now. Thanks to Rested Gal who caused me to want to try the Breeze with her favorable review of it.

The Hybrid has been 'fussy', but worth the effort. Every time I try to go back
to my older mask (CL2), I end up replacing it with the Hybrid before the night is over. Why?
Because I feel like I'm just not getting enough air with the CL2.
This is quite strange, because in May and June I was using the
CL2 every night and sleeping very well with it.
I have no molars of my own. Therefore, the Hybrid mouth-piece requires
some effort on my part to keep it from leaking at the corners. At this time
I am wearing my upper partial plate for two nights, then switching off to
using a chin-strap under my chin and over my head to create a couple of
'chipmunk cheeks' for two nights, etc. etc..
Results (average July August)
1) AHI 1.4
2) Leak 42.5
3) Average pressure 8.6 cm/H2O

I have used the hybrid for about a month now. The first week it took some time to get things fitted just right. Then learning to get it positioned properly took a bit of trial and error. I cut the connector piece on the pillows so that I could adjust each pillow individually. It made it much easier to get the pillows set properly. I did not have to cut off the chin flap to achieve a good seal. As far as strap tightness, I find that if I keep the straps not quite snug nor loose (does that make sense?) I getthe best seal. It took a bit of experimenting but now that I have it all down to a routine I don't find it difficult to use at all. I love this mask!

It pretty much worked right out of the box for me with large cushion, large pillows, chin flap retained and not much fiddling.
I use it only when congestion makes my Swift untenable and my AHI is higher on it than on the Swift but it works fine.
David
BTW - the strap fell apart with the first washing and when they become available they are sending me a new one gratis. In the interim it looks like simple staples will work to hold it together.

Only go straight, don't know.
Re: Now that you have used the Hybrid
I just completed three nights with the evil mutant scuba diving mask, AKA "the Hybrid".
Three nights was enough for me:
Uncomfortable, constant leaks, loud, yadda, yadda, yadda.
I kicked it to the curb, where it belongs.
But seriously, I brought it back to the DME this morning, and I had them order me a Comfort Full 2. I know it can't possibly be as awkward as the Hellish Hybrid.
Eventually, there's going to be an improvement on this idea, I'm quite sure. CPAP masks are becoming such big business, that SOMEONE will invent a superior mask.
This was such a contrast to my Activa,(the King of all masks) that absolutely RULED from the moment I put it on.

I'm glad it's working out for you, but I also believe that sometimes you have to know when to hold 'em, and when to fold 'em.rooster wrote:Vader, your experience sounds like mine for the first five nights. First four nights did not work for me. By fifth night I cut the chin flap off (at manufacturer's suggestion) and it took one more night of minor adjustments to get it right
For me, I just couldn't see wasting any more time on that dreadful thing.
I am now quite sure that any nasal pillow types are out of the question for me.As most of us have found out about this experience, what works for one may not work for another. Looks like it's a 50/50 dead heat with the Hybrid.
I've been using the Hybrid for a few months now....the only thing I disliked about it was the flimsy headgear. I had it on vacation with me last month and decided that I had to write to Innomed about the difficulty of getting the headgear on. On my first visit back to the forum, I learned about the new, improved version, called Innomed and got one. What a difference!
I called cpap.com yesterday to order a Hybrid for my husband, but the new headgear is not yet available. I checked with Innomed and was told in a month or so it should be standard issue....will wait to order new Hybrid until then.
Otherwise, it's been a great mask for me.

Best thing since my treatment started was getting my Hybrid. This mask is the way of the future, no doubt. I feel great for a change.
