resmed 10
Re: resmed 10
Do you have a user manual to make sure what you describe as the "internal water tank" is the humidifier? If it pulls out from the side and has markings for water level, yes, that's it. Fill it to or under tge Max line with distilled water.

Re: resmed 10
Hi,
Checked the owners manual, doesn't help much, the tank has 2 holes at the top, no markings that I can see, it doesn't look like the humidifier that is available to plug on the side.

If this is the machine...it's got a humidifier.

No holes on the top of a ResMed Airsense 10. Can you post a picture, please. If you don't have a camera, look for a photo by googling images.

Re: resmed 10
OK, will use it as I was shown by the nurse, apparently my sleep interruptions average out at 54%, this needs to be in single figures at some stage. I think I may need a humidifier but I will see what happens first.
There is some good advice on this forum, it's been a useful read.

When you join a forum like this, it's a help to everyone, yourself included, if you fill in the section of your profile with the details of the equipment you are using. That way we all know what we're dealing with.
So far we know that the manufacturer is ResMed, and this machine is from the '10' range.
But there's more than one model in the '10' range.
If you turn the machine upside down, you should see a firmly-stuck-on label. If you look for the sign 'REF' and read right next to it, that's the catalog number. It tells which model in the range it is. Or you can tell us what it says on the manual next to the word 'ResMed'.
Since it is the NHS which has issued you with this machine, I'm pretty certain that it's a 'CPAP' model or an 'Elite' - because the standard operating procedure in the NHS is to issue a fixed-pressure machine.
But it will help us help you if you confirm.

In addition, it doesn't look like you've had much explained to you. I guess they were busy.
I don't know what it means when you say '54 per cent'.
The generally-accepted way of categorizing patients is by their 'Apnea-Hypopnea Index' or AHI.
Presumably you had some kind of sleep study, and it recorded you as sleeping for so many hours. And during that time, you had a number of events - half-closed airway, almost-completely-closed airway, and sometimes completely-open airway but no breathing going on.
All these got recorded - especially the ones lasting 10 seconds or more - ie, 'significant'. And then the total number of significant events was divided by the number of hours - to give the AHI. The number of such events per hour.
The categories people fall into are:
normal - 5 or under;
mild to moderate - 6 to 15;
moderate to severe - 16 to 30;
severe - 30 and above.
If you had 54 events per hour in your sleep study, then you do need treatment.
The aim of treatment is to get you down to 5 or under. I might add that what you will find on this forum is the view that, if you're having to have treatment, you might as well aim for better than normal. With an AHI down to 2 or fewer events per hour. Think of it as that good ol' American competitive spirit.
But since you're a beginner, I would say you needn't worry about that for now. Getting your AHI down to below 10 is a good first step.

Re: resmed 10
First night done.
I was slightly worried about how it would go because of all the comments on the forum, but, for a first time not to bad.
According to my sleep results events per hour 1.2 ! Somewhat better than 54.
I found i had to sleep on my back, as I caused mask leakage when on my side.
I can see the benefits of having a humidifier, mouth was quite dry, but that has been normal for a while now.
Only the first night , so time will tell how it goes, but so far so good.

sleep on the edge of the pillow when on your side, let the mask hang over, that way the pillow isn't pushing on it.boatman wrote:I found i had to sleep on my back, as I caused mask leakage when on my side

Thanks for the pillow tip, will try it tonight.
Re: resmed 10
It would also help if you would answer the questions asked. Does your machine look like the one LSAT linked to or not???
We'll be able to help you get the humidifier up and running when we know which machine you have.

Not finding a topic for this question but the only thing that will display on my profile for equipment is my mask. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
