Broken Heater Hose
Broken Heater Hose
I have a Respironics System One with a heated hose, but the heater in the hose no longer functions. I tried a new hose but the problem remains. Do any of the readers here know how to repair this unit?
Re: Broken Heater Hose
Are you saying that your machine will no longer recognize the heated hose when it is plugged in or it recognizes the heated hose and gives you the appropriate menu choices but those choices don't seem to be working?
There was a known problem with the 50 series machines and humidifiers not working because of a loose connection in the blower unit but I wasn't aware of that problem showing up in the 60 series machines.
What is the manufacture date of your machine? It's on a little sticker on the bottom of the blower unit.
Same sticker where the model number is...it's an 8 digit number in year/month/day format.

Re: Broken Heater Hose
I took my unit into Apria yesterday. The problem was in the three electrical contacts at the outlet of the humidifier. The technician said that I could probably have repaired it myself by somehow cleaning the corrosion off the contacts. Instead, he replaced the entire humidifier, heated hose and main (external) powers supply. I was surprised that it was still covered by warranty since I got the machine a bit over three years ago. It works perfectly now. Kudos to Apria as I was met at the door by the technician before I even sat down. Getting the appointment only took four days. The entire repair/replacement took less than ten minutes.
Re: Broken Heater Hose
Do they charge you a continuing maintenance fee twice a year? Some of their contracts do. Even so it paid off this time.Leland wrote:I took my unit into Apria yesterday. I had one failure on a 50 series machine and PR replaced the blower and one failure on my 60 series machine and PR replaced that blower as well. I don't think it is very common but it does happen.

Re: Broken Heater Hose
My hose stopped heating a while ago, I thought it must be the hose, perhaps its the unit. Is there any way to tell, other than getting another hose, or bringing it into the DME?

Re: Broken Heater Hose
Change the humidifier setting to a high value. Put some water in the humidifier chamber and turn pre-heat on (Press the alarm silence button AND the control knob at the same time and hold for about 8 seconds - it will beep and the alarm silence button will light up blue). Then wait for about 20 minutes or so. Remove the humidifier tank and check the temperature of the heater plate on the bottom of the water chamber. If it is cold or only slightly warm, it is likely that the unit heater is not getting enough power from the blower unit and that will have to be repaired. If you unit is less than 2 years old or your DME has you on some sort of maintenance payment contract, take it back to your DME for repairs. If older than 2 years and no maintenance agreement, then contact AccBio for repairs. If you want to fix it yourself,
search for "Fix: Respironics System One (50 series) Humidifier Problems" for a detailed description of this problem on a Series 50 machine. I believe the Series 60 machines have a similar connection issue and may be able to be repaired in the same fashion. If you try this on your own, you may end up with a dead machine so be careful.
If it is hot or at least very warm, then the remaining check is to see if you are getting rainout during the night when the humidifier level is set to a high value. Rainout is a symptom that the hose is not heating properly even though the humidifier is heating. At this point, swapping out the heated hose is the best way to make sure.

Re: Broken Heater Hose
My water gets warm. I had rain out, so my wife made me hose cozy. It is most likely the hose, but It could also be the contacts on the machine like the OP problem. I should test the contacts with a multi meter, there should be something there to read?

Re: Broken Heater Hose
OK the hose is good, it is not getting juice from the unit. I have '50 unit. I will try for a replacement.

Re: Broken Heater Hose
The 50 series machines do not support a heated hose. That started with 60 series. You can get a heated hose that will work great, it just won't come from Philips Respironics unless you upgrade to a 60 series+ machine. Try SleepZone http://www.sleepzone.com.au/sleepzone-h ... ed-states/ It's actually a warmer better hose than the ones made by PR or Resmed.Mopheus wrote:OK the hose is good, it is not getting juice from the unit. mopheus is wrong (or a typo) about what type of machine he has, based on the SH page he posted, he's got a 60 series.Sleeprider wrote:The 50 series machines do not support a heated hose.Mopheus wrote:OK the hose is good, it is not getting juice from the unit. Re: Broken Heater Hose
You are correct, it must be a 60 because the heated hose used to heat, ha.
I removed the water, invert, and I saw garblegoogLe 50. So you are right, must be a 60 if i have good data.
I swear I didn't see the number 60 underneath. Filled up with water now, I will check again.

Re: Broken Heater Hose
other than putting the right machine in your sig so the question doesn't keep coming up, there's no need to check.Mopheus wrote:You are correct, it must be a 60 because the heated hose used to heat, ha.

but if you want to, look under the blower, not the humidifier, at where it says "REF 560" with possibly some other letters.
