How Long Before Your First Full Night's Sleep?

I have a feeling this is a long time away for me

Just curious: How long did it take to fully adjust to your new lifestyle and go to bed, put on your mask, go to sleep, and wake up either to your alarm or naturally (without any disturbances during the night)?

I pray for that day sooner than later!

20 minutes?

That was the time it took to set things up and get into bed the first night. Next thing I knew it was morning.

Still waiting.
But the disturbances I have aren't because of cpap or sleep apnea...they are from other things.

I think it took me about 6 months to work up to 5 or 6 hours of non cpap caused awakenings. For a long time I would wake up just to feel the mask and not have any known problems. Just the brain saying "hey dude, do you know that thing is still on your nose".
I think that was my biggest issue initially...I got comfortable with the mask and the pressure fairly quickly but the brain took longer to adjust to something new.

It was worse the first month though...after that the "hey dude" thing gradually became less and less.

Actually using the mask was never an issue...it disappeared on my face after just a few nights.

Less than a week to stay asleep about as long as I was in bed, --all night, sort of.
I had to wait three years (until retirement) to sleep as long as I really WANT.
Sometimes I need more than I can get, not so much now as before.

Yes sure - unless you have a diabetic cat who expects to get fed and his shot at EXACTLY 7:45 am! Time change was so much fun!

Everybody is totally different... it took me well over a year, but then I'm just unusual like that. Luckily CPAPtalk was here to help.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Pretty much right off the bat.
Even though my equipment arrived (from CPAP.COM) earlier in the week, I waited until Saturday to get started and experiment with it. I slept for nearly 11 hours that day/night. From then on, it was at least 4 hours per night and I gradually got used to it.......and my sleep time got longer and longer.
Unfortunately, about two weeks into my therapy, I developed a horrible cough and couldn't keep my mask on, so I suspended therapy for about 10 nights till I could tolerate it again. During that time off the hose I realized how much it was helping, so from then on I made sure I used it EVERY NIGHT.

I'm already adjusted, but unfortunately, I have a secondary problem with Restleg Leg Syndrome. Fortunately, it gets better with cold weather, so I should be mostly RLS free in the next week or so.

So many variables. Partly depends on if the only thing you are dealing with is adjusting to the new sensations. Some are dealing with pain, medications that mess with sleep, or other disorders. For me it is jumpy legs. Even when my legs are quiet and my CPAP doing it's job, I will still wake up multiple times each night. I don't consider it a problem unless the waking is prolonged or sleep is shallow and restless. For the most part, if I get 2-3 solid blocks of what feels like good sleep, I'm ok with that. If as you get used to things you are still bothered with wakeups, you can decide if they are tolerable or if you need to start looking for a cause.

The first couple of months I would sleep 3hrs then wake up and most times would menage to sleep another 2 or 3 hrs after a wake interval of at least an hour, then things got better and after 4 months of treatment I won't wake up anymore and have a full night sleep.
Of course at time I still get woken up by a large leak or an unexpected surge in pressure but would last only several minutes and I can fall right back asleep.

But the first couple of months where quite difficult, keep it on and you'll see your body will quickly adjust to the machine.

For me being new it is taking some time at first I did great sleeping five to seven hours then it became less and less due to allergies that came up and other things like dry mouth. I think now I could sleep all night if I did not get dry mouth and wake up. I use ResMed AirSense 10 with Mirage Quattro mask. In order to get a quick drink of water I have to take mask off cut machine off then restart machine to keep from waking my wife with the air noise coming out. I think in time I will find just the right combo but as how long it will take you only time will tell you just have to keep trying and in time it will work out. I know it helps so I will figure it out. You have to keep working on setting till you find just the right combo then sleep. Best of luck to you just don't give up. Larry

Took me months to get used to the mask on my face. I literally war eagled it off every night for a long time. Eventually I got used to it. Unfortunately those first few months I was sleeping with my bf a lot and he was a hot sleeper and I never slept comfortably.

But after a few months, when I was alone I slept very well and solid, barely moved. I slept with my arms above my head too for some odd reason (like...I surrender!) and then I would go comatose. My old pre-vpap experience was horrible. I wrecked a bed at night, never slept sound.

Once bf and I broke up, I seriously haven't slept better. I love going into my coma now lol

It didn't take me too long for a full nights sleep. I would say about a week maybe a week and a half. But I didn't start sleeping great until I started using my Airfit P10.

However, I just finished my first month on CPAP and think I'm feeling a difference in my rest. I'm averaging about 4-5 times a night to relieve the bladder, but the key is now I'm beginning to go back to sleep with the mask on pretty good. Glad I'm "almost retired" because I can really "lay down some Z's" after 4 o'clock in the AM which used to be my "wake up" time.

I've had some of the restless leg issues over the year, but never really understood. I think the CPAP is helping, but it could be the cooler weather.
