werd on da street

Post by Ric » Wed Jun 21, 2006 2:58 pm

I just spoke with "agent X" at cpap.com, inquiring about the availability of the m-series AUTO. Word is, "it could be a couple more weeks". welllllll hmmmmm, same answer as a couple weeks ago. (And legally accurate). I forgot to ask the price, so called back. "Agent Y" answered, and said they don't have a pricing on that just yet, and that it could be 30-60 days. wellll hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Unfortunately I mentioned that "a couple of weeks" ago to two of my colleagues where I work who were ready to order the AUTO with C-flex (without the "M"), I convinced them to wait "a couple of weeks" to get the "M". One is replacing an older unit, one is waiting to get started after a sleep study. I think I will repent of my earlier advice to wait "a couple of weeks for the M". Why wait. Besides, that will make a grand total of six owners/users of "RemStar AUTO w/C-flex not-M" in my office (in a workforce of about 100, that's about the national average, maybe slightly more. And all the better to share good advice and stories and technical know-how!)

Having said that, I can visualize that 10 minutes after I post this the "M-series AUTO" will become immediately available for sale. Or not. I suggest don't hold your breath until it happens. It might be 60 days.

Is there a good reason to wait it out (other than the smaller footprint)? Better algorithm? more reliable? improved ANYTHING? Inquiring minds would like to know.

Makes me glad I bit the bullet and ordered the current model. Perhaps it is an inventory management (read profit) issue?

Ric,

I agree with Chuck on this issue.

I have the Auto with Cflex and have never slept better! It is VERY quiet. I usually wait until any 'new & advanced' 'things' have been out for a while before jumping in. I also have the HC150 HH - terrific. Yes, I don't care about the additional 'space' used. I have the Auto on my headboard, and the SMALL HC150 on the floor. Both are out of my way.
...just my 2 cents worth...

You are suggesting that the "M" is More quieter? or has a better Muffler? That Makes sense. No wait! if you have the AUTO, you don't have the "M", unless you got an early prerelease Model. I think you were agreeing with ME, Chuck was advising to wait it out, largely for reasons of pride, pride, studies, and pride. I was suggesting to spring for the what's now and available, being the instant gratification sort.

"Maybe, they will give it to you now and bill you in 50 or 60 days, right!

The you can field test the new model, and in a year you will know if it still works, maybe! But no matter what happens you will have the latest and greatest, for bragging rights, it may even work. Jim

I think the just drop the price of the current model not long ago by about $15. That might be a clue.

Anyway, I've got an appt with an ENT to see if I can get something a little more permanent. I'm one of the "just had the sleep study" people.

My DME has been in touch with the manufacturer and he teels me another week and a half.
Why wait?...
Well, in the short time that I've been reading on this forum, I've heard that some doctors think that the technology is "not quite there yet" with the autos. My sister's doc said the same thing. I think that all the companies are continuing their R&D on these things and I would be surprised if Respironics was not still tinkering with their algorithm and just not saying much. Now I don't know if these things can have their firmware updated by the DME's or manufacturer reps or not. If so it might be expensive for them to do it that way.
I think the companies are well aware that patient acceptance is ultimately the deciding factor in how their machines will do in the market and so comfort and efficacy are important.
Aside from the design changes it may be that the *newer* the particular machine is, irrespective of whether it's a different "model", then the newer and more refined that the algorithm might me. And they may have chosen the M series to roll out substantial improvements.
For us at least a week and a half is not too long a wait, so I've opted to do that.
Tom

They've already have enough compliance only "M"'s out there to fill a battleship, because people didn't know what they really need. Why else would there be so many on the secondary market used, because if people get educatated they find out they need to see what their treatment does for them. Jim

So they have to move up to a smarter machine.

The algorithm will be the same as the current model. The only difference is size and looks. They've already made some changes to the unit due to quality issues. My advice is if you don't do a lot of traveling, get the current model. All the bugs have been worked out.
