Ovenyus/CSIRO 3D printed mouthpiece for sleep apnea
Ovenyus/CSIRO 3D printed mouthpiece for sleep apnea
Does anyone know how the testing is going? Do you believe this method would work?

I'm sure it would be on Medgadget if it were anywhere near a reality.
Nothing there yet. Maybe just vapor . . .

My suggestion is to do a Google search on it. This is a CPAP user help forum.Failedcpapuser wrote:Does anyone know how the testing is going? Do you believe this method would work?

Very interesting.
But I don't know that I want to breath through my mouth all night, every night, for the rest of my life. Seems like you would have a terribly dry throat after the first 15 minutes or so.
Very glad Granny and I use CPAP.

Some mention of the year 2015 in a site I found. So what will you be doing until then?
And then; what if it doesn't work for you? See an apnea dentist for possible solutions available NOW.

That is less than three months away and most people, even present day CPAP fans, go for years before they seek treatment.chunkyfrog wrote:Some mention of the year 2015 in a site I found. So what will you be doing until then?

Seems like this could be a fantastically convenient (No more carrying CPAP on airplane.), easy and complete solution to OSA.ChicagoGranny wrote:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiV5LXlbEFAFailedcpapuser wrote:Does anyone know how the testing is going? Do you believe this method would work?

For the dry throat issue it seems easy to devise a tiny aerosolizing humidifier that hooks by a small hose to the duckbill. You want a filter on it (for the gnats, fireflies and mosquitoes) anyway.

I would be willing to try anything to get rid of Cpap ! I am going to ask my dentist about it at my appt this week. She is specially trained as a sleep apnea dentist and I know she would try to get me one if they were available

They did not say any particular month, so the product could be up to 15 months away--or longer.

Me too! Babe, I will charter a cruise to take a load of us to Australia to get one.Sclark08 wrote:I would be willing to try anything to get rid of Cpap ! Seriously, I would gladly take a three-week vacation to Australia to get rid of this CPAP. If a bunch of us go on a cruise together, we have plenty of time on the way over to figure out how to deal with the dry throat.

They certainly seem to have it figured out. The breathing ports go to the back of the rear-most molar. I would have thought you need to go a little further to get past the obstructions. But surely the approval process covered this.
Very exciting.

Vaporware for XPAP treatment, now that's a novel idea, finely a use for vaporware. Jimchunkyfrog wrote:I'm sure it would be on Medgadget if it were anywhere near a reality.

Use data to optimize your xPAP treatment!

As a side note, dry air in your mouth all night long is a big problem for the well-being of your teeth. Dried out dental tissues, accelerated tooth decay, receding gums and other dental problems would be a lot to trade for simply getting rid of your CPAP machine and mask. I suppose the company could come up with a humidifier but then you're almost back to the bulky gear/equipment you need for CPAP. Like somebody else said, maybe a miniature atomizer would work.ChicagoGranny wrote: But I don't know that I want to breath through my mouth all night, every night, for the rest of my life. I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

As an FYI, the sleep medicine dentist on the other board has consistently said that having good nasal potency is crucial to having any chance of success with the dental devices. After seeing various pictures of them in people's mouths, I can see why as it would seem like a great struggle to breath through the mouth.Sir NoddinOff wrote:As a side note, dry air in your mouth all night long is a big problem for the well-being of your teeth. The Oventus website claims it reduces dry mouth. (It would seem they are talking about reducing dry mouth in people who mouthbreathe as they claim 50% of the population mouth breathes.)Sir NoddinOff wrote: As a side note, dry air in your mouth all night long is a big problem for the well-being of your teeth.
His comments are not relevant to this device. He is talking about MADs. This device works (if it does work) on a principle that is not at all like the principle behind MADs. The dentist you speak of may not even be aware of this device nor the principle behind it.49er wrote:
